It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

After reading into the mans "story" of which this film is based on,i have reached a conclusion. This film is despicable. I cannot stand films like this that have nothing but contempt for women, and men for that matter. I pray to god in heaven that nobody in their right mind sees this movie as light fluffy entertainment, maybe the devil does but i do not. I understand that we have "exploitative" horror films where people watching only see face value violence and totally disregard artistry, patterns performances, etc. I would rather watch an intelligent Korean horror film that makes me think and feel. Maybe that is just what i will do...

I never read the book. So I am reviewing the movie based on no prior knowledge of the storyline. Wow. This is a bad, bad movie, and I think it's the fault of Tucker Max.Tucker Max is the writer of the book of the same name that became a best seller. Apparently he took those profits and made the movie because his name was displayed in large letters as the producer in the credits. He is also listed as the screenwriter. I'm guessing his success went to his head and he thought he knew how to make movies, but he doesn't. Because he was the boss, no one would - or could - tell him that his script was terrible and his director wasn't getting the job done. What we're left with is an attempt at crude, college humor. Single guys drinking, chasing women, and all the stereotypical jokes that you would expect. The problem is that the jokes are not funny. The three lead characters are incredibly unlikable.Yes, I understand this movie is supposed to be about redemption, so the characters are supposed to be unlikeable at first. However, there is nothing to like about these guys. There is no glint of morality or decency that leads you to believe the guy isn't as bad as he seems. So, by the end of the movie, you just really don't care what happens to them. This is what other reviewers mean when they say there is no character development.Almost every other ratings website gives this movie an extremely low - if not their lowest - rating. I have no idea how IMDb has this averaged out at 5.3 out of 10 stars. My only guess is that Tucker Max is paying people to log on and give excessively high ratings. Since the story is supposed to be autobiographical, he seems to be the kind of person that would do something like that.

Let me present this hypothetical scenario to you:You and your buddies get in the car and drive to the nearest Middle School. Once there go up to the fattest or ugliest little girl you can find and make fun of her till she runs away crying. Continue doing this till the principal calls the police, then key a few cars and do a donut in the front lawn before speeding away. Then you all go to a local bar and recount your experiences, loudly and with great hilarity, till you're totally bombed.Sound like a fun way to kill an evening? If so then you're this movie's target audience and may enjoy it. For the rest of us 'lame-ass losers' who would find such behavior appalling, just walk away and pretend you never saw it.

Even though in reality Tucker Max may be a pretentious git and 'I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell' is by no means among the best in comedy, I actually enjoyed the film. I haven't read the novel but I liked the title and the actors so I have been looking forward to it. Then the negativity that surrounded it after release lowered my expectations and when I saw it last night I laughed. The movie does try to use shock value (how often does one witness someone with a shitty ass on screen) but that doesn't work in its favour. The dialogues are quite extreme and even offensive to women but I liked how the women react to it. The Drew character mostly because of his transformation from heartbroken women hater to a devoted lover. For me the best scenes were with Drew and I enjoyed watching his love story with Lara unfold. The acting is quite good. Matt Czuchry, Geoff Stults and Jesse Bradford are brilliant. Bradford steals the show with terrific dialogue delivery. This actor deserves some good scripts. Marika Dominiczyk is both sensual and sensational. Kerry Lyn Pratt is very likable.'I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell' may not be a particularly great movie but it's fun once you're passed the misogynistic part of it. It doesn't really stay true to the title though.
