The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

It was fun and fairly bright. Some crass humor, and still bright language. I find Dax often write things with very specific communication tips in mind. It's interesting

Hit and Run (2012): Dir: David Palmer, Dax Shepard / Cast: Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell, Bradley Cooper, Tom Arnold, Kristin Chenoweth: Car chase farce about relationship and facing one's past. Dax Shepard plays an ex-criminal who is on the witness protection program because he rode the getaway car to several bank robberies. His girlfriend is played by Kristen Bell who accepts a job in L.A but that means that Shepard must enter dangerous territory. She will learn much about her boyfriend on a long chase that is big on action but not so great on common sense. Bradley Cooper plays a former partner in crime who spent a rather uncomfortable stay in prison and seeks revenge. This results in several chase scenes that also includes Bell's possessive ex-boyfriend, gay cops, and a witness protection cop, played to great scene stealing hilarity by Tom Arnold. His van goes through a process that includes a bowling ball through the windshield, and brakes that frequently fail to work resulting in Arnold's hysteric outbursts. Kristin Chenoweth plays Bell's supervisor who sets her up for an interview with the University of California. Unlike the bicycle chaser Premium Rush, this contains little plot and becomes more or less a series of vulgar conversations mixed with car chases and crashes. The one saving grace is the actors who have great chemistry and pull off performances that are comically above the wreck of a screenplay. Directed by David Palmer and Dax Shepard who are backed by over the top wreckage that sometimes works but the end result is less a hit and more a run of stupidity. Score: 5 / 10

"Hit & Run" has its share of big laughs, but for every joke that works, there's another that doesn't. While the premise is interesting, it can't seem to decide if it wants to be a crazy mad-cap comedy or lean more towards the dramatic implications that someone in the witness protection might face and balance it out with some laughs. If you're a fan of fast cars though, the movie has some cool driving sequences and is more than happy to show off how fast and well the characters can drive. I didn't feel like the movie was even trying to appease my cinematic tastes, mostly because as far as I'm concerned, cars are only interesting if they're getting you from point A to B, or if they're turning into alien robots. I also didn't particularly care for the sex humour in the film, least of all the "joke" that is simply showing male genitalia and the recurring prison rape gags. I still had enough laughs that I didn't feel like I was wasting my time, and can see gear heads liking the movie more than I would, but it's still just an average movie. Fun for some, but the only people who will really remember this movie fondly are the actors. (theatrical cut on the big screen, August 14, 2012)

Okay, this is my first time reviewing a movie on IMDb and that's how much I liked this movie, enough to come here and tell people to watch it. 6.1, really? This movie deserves so much more! I don't wanna give away anything. It's very different from everything I've seen. I absolutely loved the writing and the directing for this movie. Dax Shepard did a superb job with everything. The dialogs are so sharp and witty and fun and everything is great in general. I sound like a big fan girl and I have to say that after this movie, I really am now. Man, the soundtrack is on point! Also, the cast is amazing. I had no expectations whatsoever for this despite being a big Kristen Bell fan but I ended up loving everything about this movie. Go see it! Good job, Dax!
