One of those movie experiences that is so good it makes you realize you've been grading everything else on a curve.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, this movie! I can't believe the reviews I've read here concerning the wonderfully handled nudity of this satirical bit of horrific joy. The fact that many of the reviewers can't call this a horror movie because it doesn't contain heaps of graphically tortured, dismembered, and degraded victims, yet express shock at the sexuality, shows how far the horror genre and it's devotees have fallen. Everybody involved with the film rises above any expectations of a direct-to-video production. The direction is crisp, legible, and to the point. The acting is full of fun, and the redneck characters are artfully realized. The sex is a hoot, and played much more satisfactorily than the average stripper-playing-vampire flick of the era. You can even see what's going on when a scene is in darkness, something many directors of modern day horror films might study. The full soundtrack is a rush. No one-finger synthesizer, screamingly bad metal, or Godawful techno crap here! Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a double feature with "Hideous", another Full Moon flick with much of the cast and wit of this little gem! But first, unclench those cheeks. You'll be better for it!

This has to be one of the all time greatest horror movies. Charles Band made the best movie of 96' in this little seen gem. Highly realistic and , incredibly stylised- with a visual flair David Fincher would envy, its not hard to see why Band went on to make such classics as 'Killjoy 2: Deliverance From Evil', 'The Regina Pierce Affair', 'Virgins of Sherwood Forest', and 'Timegate: Tales of the Saddle Tramps'.With a highly sophisticated story- a tiny body with a large head controls a family of weirdos who perform experiments on naked women, this movie may be a bit too much for younger viewers and is only for the most educated type of viewer, but for those who see it, Band is able to convey subtle messages about the human condition through his masterpiece. The head is symbolic of the lost love and longing for one's inner self that we all must face at one point or another, and for this reason i was able to engage with this film on a deeply personal level. Although many earlier critics have compared Band's film to Re-animator and other lesser works, this stands head and heels above the rest. It is gorier, but not pointlessly. The gore in this film is well crafted and used to enhance the storyline, rather than to just get a cheap shriek out of the audience. Also, the special effects in this film are absolutely top notch, easily the best work done in a horror film since... well... ever! The work in this film makes Savini's effects look like the work of a blind, limbless hobo. The only problem i have with this film is the copious amounts of full frontal nudity, which were ultimately unnecessary in achieving the composer's goal- to create a timeless epic that would forever go down in history as possibly the greatest film of all time. If it were not for this slight problem i would have given this film a perfect 10.

"Head of the Family" is one of the best of the Full Moon horror films.**SPOILERS** On a street in an unassuming neighborhood, a family of freaks, Otis, (Bob Schott) Wheeler, (James Jones) and Ernestina, (Dianne Colazzo) lives that causes the others in the town to be paranoid of them. Loretta, (Jacqueline Lovell) a local, is secretly having an affair with bar owner Lance (Blake Bailey) over her boyfriend, Howard (Gordon Jennison Noice). While traveling one night, Loretta and Lance witness the family capturing a traveler and dragging him into their house. Doing a little digging, Lance learns that the family is a family of freaks that is run by Myron, (J.W. Perra) a giant head that wishes to have a normal body. Lance ends up blackmailing them into helping him get rid of Howard and giving him tons of money. Not wanting to become associated with him, Myron sends Otis and Wheeler to spy on him in case of a slip-up to end the deal. Loretta and Lance are captured and tortured into revealing his plans for the family. Loretta is forced into a play with the other victims of Myron's doing, until Otis comes to her rescue and is able to save her from the set being accidentally burned down. The Good News: The real asset, or assets, to this film is the casting of Jacqueline Lovell. Not only is she a good looking actress, she also went topless three times in the film, including two for long periods of time. Also included in that was three more instances of full nudity in the film. She really was nude in at least thirty percent of her on-screen appearances. Also included was a member of the freak family going topless. There really was a lot of nudity in the film. What I also thought was original was that there was a completely original story that had hardly been seen in horror films. It is more of a pervert's movie and it is something new that I haven't seen in a while. Even though there wasn't a whole lot of special effects in the film, the ones that are seem pretty realistic. The giant head of Myron is plausibly done, and looks like something that could exist. The play set was pretty expensive. The designs of the freaks that they keep in the basement are very creepy and look threatening upon first glance. The Bad News: For a horror film, you need jumps. This film has no jumps, shocks or even jolts. It really needed something to cure the boredom. Without the nudity, the film would be just a drag with nothing else to go for it. This film needed something else, a jump or something. The Final Verdict: With no nudity, this film would probably not be very well received. Still, this is a lot better than a lot of Full Moon films. It is more for perverts because of the high amount of nudity and violent acts, not violence, for Full Moon fans. All non-Full Moon fans will be bored stupid by the film.Rated R: Nudity, several strong Sex Scenes, Violence, and Graphic Language

A couple of friends and myself visited the video shop a few years back and we were in one of those moods to rent some cheesy non seen flicks. My friend grabbed Head of the Family and we were greeted by a head sitting in a wheelchair. Well that set us off laughing and we decided to have a bet to see who would be the one who had to go to the desk and pay for the movie. Well you guessed it, it was me!!!!!!!! I have never been so embarrised in all my life. We got home and put it on and we rolled about the floor laughing for about 45mins because this was the funniest film in the world. I cant remember much about it but one thing i do remember was the blonde girl getting it on with some guy in the back of a shop every 5 mins. That head made me laugh and when i look at other peoples comments aboout this movie it makes me laugh even more. Head of the family is so good and the head is funny and im still laughing ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
