The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

A preposterously fun movie, if you're prepared to give yourself to the ridiculousness of it. It's like Atlantic City, really, in that if you take it seriously, you'll be somewhere between disappointed, mildly repulsed and deeply depressed. If, on the other hand, you decide, well that's just NUTTY, let's roll with it, you'll have a good time. Benning and Wiig are great, and you have to admire Benning's willingness to embody the big hair. You can totally see how the movie is going to turn out, but there are some pleasurable little surprises on the way. Synopses are somewhat pointless: it's about rediscovering joy, by going back to New Jersey. See, I told you it was ridiculous.

The cinematic equivalent of being forced to breastfeed a teething dolphin, "Girl Most Likely" stars actress Kristen Wiig as Imogene, a middle aged playwright who stages a suicide in an attempt to win back her ex. This bizarre gesture eventually leads Imogene on a quest to find her long-lost father."Girl Most Likely" was written by Michelle Morgan, whose script wastes time on a wholly superfluous first act. It was directed by Shari Springer and Robert Pulcini, who manage nothing of note. Rubbing salt into the wounds of wounded viewers is a small cameo by Whit Stillman, a director renowned for several sophisticated, interesting comedies. What's he doing in a film like this? Actor Matt Dillon steals the show as a bizarre, bathrobe wearing samurai.3/10 - Worth no viewings. See Whit Stillman's "The Last Days of Disco".

Spoiler is not in the first part. It is at the end of this review. It was somewhat amusing in places. I've heard people say Kristen Wiig is funny so I thought I'd give it a try. It was so all over the place. First she's in NYC, then a hospital, then she goes to Jersey, then back to NYC, the story is just so all over the place. There were too many characters and I didn't really care about them. I didn't like it, especially the end. It wasn't that funny either. I watched it on Netflix. I'd advise if you really want to see it, don't pay a lot for it.SPOILER-----------Don't read next part if you haven't seen it---------So she goes to see her dad and he offers to give her money and that's why she thinks he's a piece of ****? I just didn't buy that. Then all of a sudden she's happy with her mom. Too formulaic.I can't recommend it.

While I thought the script was funny and the acting solid, I always get hung up on screenwriter's lack of fact checking. When Wiig gets placed under involuntary psych. care, they call it a "5150" - That term is only used in L.A. - not in NY or NJ!!! I realize most screenwriters are based in L.A. (including this one) but can't they do some basic fact-checking before you write the final script? It seems lazy not to and it makes me lose interest in the film as a whole once I see these types of glaring errors. I know this isn't a serious dramatic film on psych disorders but it isn't the no-budget junior high school production of Oklahoma either.
