It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

I laughed quite a bit with the dialog. Prior to viewing the credits my wife figured that Chris had written the script. Having the grandmother, Polly Bergen, tell it like it is was refreshing. To be able to take dementia and put a positive spin was interesting. Allison Janney played the part especially "the look in the mirror" scene with Christina Hendricks.I probably was more captivated due to my familiarity of the cast members from recent television programs.I don't know if the Covair was a metaphor especially being a convertible-open to world. I did curse Ralph Nader. The sound tracked worked some familiar, some fresh and relevant.Overall good quality writing, acting and directing even if a lot of the story line is predictable.

The film encourages me on a personal level. I am a writer and have always been interested in whatever form it may take. Carson is a journalist who wants to have a future outside of this horrid town. In some ways, our main character is a bully. But what I like is that he actually is right on his views. His blackmailing people might be questionable but he makes the point that people stop believing in their dreams. This guy might be a dick but he believes in something. Think about how clichéd we can get in school. This guy rants and makes them feel it. I can relate to wanting all the stupidity around me to stop. And look, at least, you can tell why this guy is a dick. Just look at his parents! One need not look further. His point on ideas and where they come from is especially something that I think could be touched on little bit more both in this film and all films really. But this has the right feel and moral and outlook on life that I would love to see more people take seriously.

I had never heard of this movie, but I caught it as it was starting on TV last night, and in the absence of anything else good to watch I decided to give it a go, at the end of the movie.... In fact, long after the end of the movie I was still thinking about it.Plot In A Paragraph: A high school boy desperate to escape his hometown and move to New York, attend the college of his dreams and do something other than live in the foot steps of his drunken, divorced mother. He recounts how he blackmailed his fellow students into contributing to his literary magazine and discovers what its like to feel accomplished. I really liked this movie, Chris Colfer is outstanding as Carson, and Allison Janney is brilliant as his mother. Dermot Mulroney offers steady support and Sarah Hyland is a lot of fun as the stuck up cheerleader, whilst Rebel Wilson is her usual reliable self as Malerie.

This movie was well done and actually brought tears to my eyes at the end. Some state that this was Cris Colfer's 'self-agenda' for gay rights and self-righteousness which is completely ridiculous. I would not classify this movie as a comedy in any way so don't go expecting that. The protagonist is sarcastic and pessimistic after all life has thrown at him, dealing with a bunch of cliché high school stereotypes which evey high school has. He hates stupidity, which any person with an IQ agrees. (If you don't agree, you should check your high school report cards)One of my favorite lines was (Carson) Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, why did I get a C on this? This is a great paper. (TEACHER) The assignment was to pick either evolution or creationism and provide background evidence as to why you believe that theory. (Carson) I know, I picked evolution. I said that it's obvious creatures can adapt to their environment because I no longer have the urge to throw things at students who believe in creationism. Right? Right? The main character is witty, intelligent, and knows how to stand up for what he believes in. Someone wrote that his death in the movie was insignificant and the end would have been 'just as effective if he went off to college.' They missed the entire point of the movie. LIFE Doesn't WORK THAT WAY. Things don't always go as planned. Sh*t happens. Its how you deal with it that defines you as a person.Strong message, great movie, great acting. I would definitely recommend this movie
