SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
... View MoreToo much about the plot just didn't add up, the writing was bad, some of the scenes were cringey and awkward,
... View MoreBlending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
... View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
... View MoreFun with Dick and Jane is a mediocre movie with an average plot, despite a very talented comedic cast. There is not a dull performance in the bunch, featuring Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni, who have a great back and forth with one another, there pairing is unlikely, which makes it all the more enjoyable. There are also several great supporting roles throughout from the likes of Alec Baldwin and Richard Jenkins, who all bring their A-game. However, the film itself sadly does not deliver on the potential of its great cast, they all feel wasted and restricted by mediocre dialogue, as well as a lackluster plot. There was a sense of a studio involvement in this, not allowing the performers to stretch their legs and really have fun making the movie. The plot is also very inconsistent, having little idea of what tone it is going for, ranging from slapstick, to black, satirical conedy, then having some dramatic moments, it all got very muffled. Instantly forgettable. Worth the look if you are a fan of Carrey or Leoni, but Fun with Dick & Jane is a very mundane comedy. A couple turn to a life of crime after losing a hefty sum of money. Best Performance: Jim Carrey
... View MoreFun with Dick and Jane is a remake of the 1977 film starring Jane Fonda and George Segal. After the failure of companies such as Enron in the new millennium this remake starring Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni was intended to be satire with Carrey's broad comedy. As a satire its passable with Alec Baldwin playing the Chief Executive who ransacks his corporation and leaves his employees in the dirt. As a comedy it does not really work and never raised a smile with me.Carrey's Dick is VP of Globodyne Corporation, he and his wife both have a good job, a BMW, a prestigious house and living the American dream with an upper class lifestyle. It all goes horribly wrong when his firm goes under.Dick cannot find another executive job and both have them to look for more menial jobs before having lost their savings and household appliances they are forced to commit robbery before Carrey decided to turn on his former boss.As a remake this does not hold a candle to the original. Leoni brings nothing to the table and its left to Carrey to keep the movie being watchable but the satire lacks edge, the comedy is weak and the movie is rather mundane.
... View MoreWhile watching a movie that has been remade,it is all too easy to make comparisons to the original if you have seen it.It happens to me a lot.In the case of this film though,I had not(and,to date, still have not)seen the original,so it was much easier to watch without the scrutiny.I think this movie is a hoot! Jim Carrey is in top form here, and not only that,Tea Leoni matched him step for step and worked just as hard to make the film enjoyable as Carrey did.I do plan to watch the original film in the future, but this time,I will be doing the opposite:Comparing the original to the remake. That's rare for me.This time the original will have some expectations to live up to.
... View MoreFun with Dick and Jane is a remake of the 1977 comedy of the same title. It stars Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni as Dick and Jane Harper, an upper- middle-class couple who resort to robbery after the company for which Dick works goes bankrupt. Alec Baldwin, Richard Jenkins, Angie Harmon, John Michael Higgins, Richard Burgi, Carlos Jacott, Gloria Garayua and Stephnie Weir also star in supporting roles. It was written by Judd Apatow and directed by Dean Parisot.Dick Harper and his wife, Jane, would seem to have it made considering that Dick has a high-paying job, they live in an expensive house in the suburbs, they have two luxury cars in the driveway, and a housekeeper, Blanca to help look after their son, Billy. But Dick and Jane's fairy- tale life crashes head-on into reality when the firm Dick works for turns out to have been using unscrupulous accounting methods to disguise the fact they've been losing money hand over fist, and he has been made the fall guy for some of their dirty dealings. Suddenly flat broke, they must find a new way to support their lavish lifestyle, and in time they resort to criminal activities.Remakes are always a gamble, so it's a pleasant surprise that the movie pays off with unexpected dividends. It's as entertaining as the original starring George Segal and Jane Fonda, and the teaming of Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni makes this a safe bet for comedy fans. But the slapstick screenplay fails to achieve its fullest potential. It starts off silly, soon becomes funny and then skyrockets into irrepressible hilarity. But unfortunately,it does not sustain a consistent tone.
