Did you people see the same film I saw?

... View Morea film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
... View MoreThere are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
... View MoreFilm about an 18 year girl called Pauline and her rather shocking dreams or fantasies of sex and death. She is also desperate to lose her virginity. AnnaLynne McCord plays the role and considering she is a model the make up team have done a good job of making her look, frankly, pretty ugly. Traci Lords, Malcolm McDowell & John Waters, a few famous cult names, also help make up the cast. Hard to classify this type of film. My TV guide, Wikipedia & IMDB all describe it as horror and it certainly has a lot of nightmarish stuff and gore going on. But it's also a teen drama, a black comedy and dare I say even a bit of an art movie. But whatever genre you want to label it as it's a shocking, strange but also riveting watch. Perhaps experience would be a better word. Certainly not for everyone & a strong stomach is advised but credit due for pushing the boundaries.
... View MoreI never thought this movie would be so good and enjoyable. I found it strange, beautiful and haunting. First of all, the cast did an amazing work. Traci Lords as the mother and Annalynne McCord as the daughter were just flawless. Second of all, I am usually a straight horror fan but this movie mixed drama, horror and dark comedy so well that I enjoyed every aspect of the film. Third of all, the plot was in all of it's weirdness actually believable and it moved forward, there were no lazy dull moments but the movie was well put together. I have always had a soft spot for Traci and I loved the fact that she did such a strong characterization. I myself were, and I guess still am as an adult, a troubled person with dark fantasies and I actually somewhat identified with Pauline. Annalynne has frankly never been one of my favorites but this movie made her just that. Roger Bart as the dad and Ariel Winter as the sister did a great job too. No to mention when I saw my favorite Criminal Minds-actor Matthew G. Gubler. I need to get this movie on my dvd-collection asap!!!
... View MoreRichard Bates Jr has done an amazing job with this movie I cannot understand the negative reviews. Its a movie I guess many who don't have a strong stomach can handle but its not over the top gore it has a background story. The movie covers many issues.. I wouldn't say its a horror more a psychological dark humorous movie. Its based around Pauline, a acne scarred social outcast 18 year old who dreams of being a surgeon... So much so her dreams are graphical, torturous and some necrophilia. She is not the perfect student and likes to play her classmates off against each other and labelled weirdo. We also mainly focus on her family life her mother Phyllis who's an overpowering controlling woman whom Pauline wants to get affection from, Dad Bob is stuck in between and under the thumb and her younger sister Grace the apple of her mothers eye ad slowly dying from cystic fibrosis Of all the people in her life Grace is the only one she cares for and wishes her mother was dying instead From the start of the film we view Pauline a weird teenager who just is a little strange.. but then her character gets darker questioning her mentality and her dreams get more vivid This isn't for the faint hearted there is a lot of gore but in my opinion its not pointless gore it fits in the delusional dreams The ending is the most pivotal scene.. I wont give it away but its shocking and will have you question is there really something wrong with her or is Pauline acting up?
... View MoreI had high expectations while watching this movie. I did expect a straight forward horror movie. I was wrong about that. This was a black comedy for the most part.I was annoyed with the standard trope that appears in most movies nowadays of the dominating mother and the submissive father. I remember seeing a similar sort of theme done 13 years ago in American beauty. And ever since then, literally dozens of movies have used the same theme. The performance of Traci lords seems more of an imitation of what Annette benning did. Only less annoying though. On that topic, Traci lords has given a creditable performance, I was quite surprised. Annalynne mccord's performance is also pretty good. Her deadpan delivery and sulking expressions were funny to watch.I liked the affection between the sisters. That was refreshing to watch. I guess that is important anyway towards the end. Also there is genuine affection in the family even though towards the end, it all goes horribly wrong. And honestly the family is not that dysfunctional at all. The problems are purely with the girl and her fantasies. The dialogue is pretty funny and it keeps things interesting throughout. The dream sequences are interesting but I didn't think they were anything shocking, maybe they were trying too hard. There are some gory scenes in those fantasies but they didn't make much of an impact on me.Overall, I liked it somewhat but not too impressed.6/10
