Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

A film that is technically awful, but has some interesting flourishes if you are prepared to look past the appearances. Apparently based on a series of books, Dragonlance is very popular. Unfortunately, all it could manage for a feature length film is this low budget animation. The animation is reminiscent of late 80's/early 90's cartoons such as Conan, and He-Man. It is all very jittery and clunky. Sometimes it looks as though characters are being pushed around the screen. The makers theb decide to make the dragon CG, despite not having the budget for it. It mixes in an uncomfortable blend. On the surface, their are too many similarities to Lord of the Rings. There are Men, Elves, Dwarfs and Wizards. They make an unlikely team that join together to vanquish evil. There is more in terms of complex emotions and quirks, but they barely have room to breath. The hero is the product of a rape, one of the team has sacrificed himself for great power and is not trusted, despite being liked. There's even a mad dragon that comes into play.A lot of nice stuff, but the quality just isn't there to pull it off. Perhaps one day a more complete picture will form, but for now, these are the equivalent to the LOTR animated films.

I love the Dragonlance books, they are brilliantly written and exciting with strong characters and imagery. This movie doesn't deliver on any level, except for one. Kiefer Sutherland does an outstanding job with his voice work, other than that Dragonlance:Dragons of Autumn Twilight isn't worth it really. The animation is very outdated, the backgrounds and colours are very dull, the visual effects are too flashy and out-date the visual style more and all the characters look awkward especially in the facial expressions. The music is both generic and forgettable with no themes sticking out as such, the writing is cheesy and trite and the story is predictable, convoluted and very rushed through. None of the characters are believable or likable and look very uncomfortable especially in the unexciting action sequences, and the rest of the voice acting is bland. All in all, only worth seeing for Kiefer Sutherland, everything else stinks in my opinion. 2/10 Bethany Cox

A quick introduction. I am 28. I first read the Dragonlance books when I was 11 years old. At the time they were my favorite books. In fact when I first got on the net in like 1994 I looked up more info about the original 6 books by Weis and Hickman.Since then I have grown up and graduated college. I just found out about this movie recently; having not been a fan of fantasy books in years I had no idea this movie was even in development. On the positve, Keifer Sutherland doing the voice acting. The negative? Everything else.I must admit the geek in me smiled when this movie started, but soon I couldn't stand watching it and had to resist the urge to fast forward. Its understandable that they had to cut parts of the plot out but it was like watching the book in 3x fast-forward.Due to the poor animation the characters, the emotions of the characters are reduced to long looks and short nods. The animation in this movie is worse than most 80s cartoons.Like most Dragonlance fans Raistlin is my favorite character. In this movie he is elevated from not just a wizard but an all knowing seer-of-visions. In the books Raistlin is very very specific that he is NOT a seer, and doesn't trust their visions.Overall, if you are a fan of the series, I recommend watching it just for laughs, but if you expect a good film you will be very disappointed.

I just rented this movie, and having read some of the comments on IMDb prior to doing so I still felt "betrayed". I feel sorry for Hickman & Weis. To see that someone made this movie and took something so beautifully and ingeniously written and turned it into this abomination is truly a shame.I'm not going to comment on the animation (ok it was terrible), but even though the movie contains most of the main plot from the book, but it misses everything that made the story great. It has none of the intrigue, none of the character development, no back story to explain why the characters are interacting with each other the way they are, in fact none of the story makes any sense if you haven't read the books and can remember why things are happening.I won't go into detail with spoilers and such, but unless you're a huge fan of the series I would not touch this movie with a ten foot pole (and to be honest even if you are a fan you should consider not getting this movie anyway). Will Meugniot should be (and hopefully is) ashamed of himself. The only good thing I took away from this movie is that I reminded myself that I should re-read the series as it has been a while.
