Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Trailers

The events of Battle of Gods take place some years after the battle with Majin Buu, which determined the fate of the entire universe. After awakening from a long slumber, Beerus, the God of Destruction is visited by Whis, his attendant and learns that the galactic overlord Frieza has been defeated by a Super Saiyan from the North Quadrant of the universe named Goku, who is also a former student of the North Kai. Ecstatic over the new challenge, Goku ignores King Kai's advice and battles Beerus, but he is easily overwhelmed and defeated. Beerus leaves, but his eerie remark of "Is there nobody on Earth more worthy to destroy?" lingers on. Now it is up to the heroes to stop the God of Destruction before all is lost.

How wonderful it is to see this fine actress carry a film and carry it so beautifully.

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

This film really succeeds in bringing the Dragonball franchise back to life. Nostalgic and humorous moments dot the movie. The dub is great and its good to hear the original VA's. Beerus is a great villain and it is good to see a breakaway from the formula- Goku has to accept that SPOILER- he can't beat Beerus, well not yet anyway. The fight was well animated but a bit short for a DBZ film, however it had great tension and high stakes. The score is also brilliant and fitting for the new level of power reached by Goku. A highlight is "Birth of a super saiyan God"- and it is refreshing to see a transformation that is peaceful and graceful rather than screaming for 5 minutes. I liked the new form and I think that it is more than a recolor. The god-form also is skinnier and more flawless to give a deity like feel. The aura is also pretty cool. Overall this is a great movie for new and old fans of the world of DB.

Battle of the Gods represents exactly what Dragonball should be. The flow of the plot is consistent with the original style: a new enemy appears (Beerus) who makes whatever unique level of power Goku and friends achieved in the previous crisis (Super Saiyan 3, Mystic Form, etc) completely irrelevant, forcing them to aspire to new heights (Super Saiyan God) in order to prevail. There are, however, some major deviations from the formula in this movie. For starters, the "good guys" don't win. Despite becoming a Super Saiyan God, Goku proves to be no match for Beerus. Secondly, Beerus isn't exactly a villain, at least not in the typical sense. He is a God of Destruction, who appears every few decades to destroy worlds that displease him, and in doing so helps maintain the balance of the cosmos. Does this sound silly? Let's do a quick recap:-Goku, our main protagonist, is descended from a race of savage alien warriors that inexplicably transform into giant monkeys on the full moon, and he is only a good guy because he suffered head trauma as a child. Otherwise he would have killed all of humanity. Brain damage = super monkey alien warrior, defender of Earth! Amirite?-The series is about "Dragon Balls" and is even named after them, all for the sake of a pun involving reptilian private parts. No, really.-Consider the long forgotten character, Launch. You know, the sweet blue haired girl who turned into a blonde maniac whenever she sneezed? Seems like a reasonable thing to happen.-Remember the time Gotenks went Super Saiyan 3 and literally screamed a hole through time and space?-How about that time Buu turned Vegito into candy, and was then beaten to a bloody pulp by said piece of candy?I could go on, but my point is this: Dragon Ball is lovably ridiculous, it always has been and always will be. It's a staple of the series that is alive and well in Battle of the Gods. So yes, the antagonist is a bit comical, and the movie is riddled with humor that exploits the main characters here and there - but what makes this movie so great is that these elements are executed in a way that respects who the characters are, and is true to the classic Dragon Ball style. If you truly love the series for what it is, then you will not only appreciate this movie, but you will find yourself falling in love with Dragon Ball all over again.

The story plot and the action I thought was great and interesting. The only part I thought was terrible was how many inconsistencies the movie had from the actual ending of Dragon Ball Z. For instance Goten, Trunks, and Marron should look taller than what they were. Where the hell was Bulla because she should have been born before Pan. Since it seemed like she was older anyways or at least Bulma should have looked pregnant. I could be wrong but the Dragon Ball Z/GT always made it look like Pan was younger than Bulla. All the websites I checked said she was 4 or 6 in Dragon Ball Z, but to me she seem more like 5 or 6 since she looked so much older than Pan. I just feel they should have made the older characters look a little more older rather than younger since it's been a few years at least since the ending of Dragon Ball Z. The part that was amazing is showing more that Vegeta actually cares about Bulma. I think the movie was really good over all but could have been better. If there weren't as many inconsistencies. Now I can't wait to see how dragon ball resurrection of F and Dragon Ball Super comes out!

I need to post this review to correct the other ones giving this movie high score and explaining how amazing it was, no let me tell you die hard dbz fans how disappointing this movie was: There was no "dbz-feeling" in this movie, i'm very disappointed. I was so excited for this movie because there haven't been any dbz movies for a long time and since the series got finished, dragonball universe has been for a long time. I was hoping for this movie to revive it for a bit at least but no, that's sad. An unnecessary movie if you ask me. I wanted dragonball characters struggling for survival, fighting together, facing an overwhelming threat like an army, I wanted to see fusion, this movie lacked dramatic effect and emotional scenes and moments, it wasn't epic in any way, more like a comedy with unserious fighting scenes. Dragonball is about sacrifice and transformation and die for those you love, the seriousness of Dragonball wasn't in this movie,Examples of these moments: -Epicness -Dramatic transformation -Goku transformed because of Frieza killing Kuririn. -The moment Gohan transforms because he's crying for Cell killing the android -Father and Son kamehameha -Vegeta's sacrifice -Piccolo Fusion -Kid Gohan crying at Piccolos dying moments. -Goku and Vegeta fusion -Future trunks crying for future Gohan and transforms. -People getting killed -Tears -A build up reaching a climax -and so much more.Gave this movie 3/10, why? Because it's more focus on the comedy side of Dragonball instead of the serious, dramatic and epicness of Dragonball just like I described.
