It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

This film was, at the time of its release, the most expensive film. I can totally understand why. It is all completely lavish and the sets are wonderful. The acting is the best part though. Shahrukh Khan excels in the role of Devdas, a role I think only him and perhaps Aamir Khan could do well. His performance is totally out of this world. For me, Aishwariya Rai ruins the film a bit; her acting is ordinary, if that, and she just doesn't do much to add to the overall effect; the other two steal the show. Madhuri, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. The music of the film is one of a kind, with the stand out tracks, for me, being 'Maar Daala' and 'Dola re Dola'. Technically, everything is superb; can't fault the screenplay, cinematography and editing. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has got it right once again. Hats off to him.Verdict: one of the finest films you'll see. I give it 9/10

The most lavish Indian movie ever.Sanjay Leela Bhansali creates a visual master piece.Every thing looks stunning.Visuals are simply stunning and breath taking.Personally,i have never seen such a beautiful and a colorful movie like this one. There are colors every where and the sets compliment the color a lot. They are simply stunning.Camera work compliments the film a lot capturing the best shoots.Costumes are simply amazing.Every part is decorated very well.Technically, the movie is amazingActing was excellent.Shah Rukh breathes life into his country and has given a very moving performance as the heart broken and alcholic Devdas. He impresses in the drunk scenes.Aishwarya looks completely stunning and has done an excellent job.Her dance Silsila is a treat to watch.Madhuri too is excellent too in a short role. Her dances Kaahe Cheed Mohe and Maar Daala are a treat to watch. She and Aishs Dola Re is a treat to watch.Kirron Kher is first rate and so is Smita Jaykar. The most weirdest thing i say is,Kirrons dance in Morey Piya is a treat to watch.Jackie Sheroff hams and is passable.Music by Ismail Darbar compliments the film a lot.Direction by Bhansali is never the less excellent. After making the excellent Hum Dil De.He has made another wonderful flick.Go watch it.you will not be disappointed

That is true. Bollywood films do base a lot of their ideas off of Hollywood movies, down to the point of plagirism (they even have used recent movies, such as Hitch, for material as well), but Devdas is not one of these cases. Counting this version, it's been remade three times. I know one time was in the 1930s, and in the 1950s, and in theatrical adaptations It is a Bengali novella by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay written in 1917. Sorry, but it was a good thought anyway. Just so you know, I got the information off of wikipedia, from the article concerning the movie, and it is not made up data by any means. There have also been several television adaptations. Devdas is a Bengali story, and a famous one at that. As the author of the article said, "The novella powerfully depicts the prevailing societal customs in Bengal in the early 1900s, which are largely responsible for preventing the happy ending of a genuine love story." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devdas

Devdas is Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's classic and stunning film! Shahrukh's performance as Devdas was outstanding+! Madhuri Dixit's performance as Chandramukhi was mesmerizing! Aishwarya's performance as Paro was excellent+! Castomes, songs and dances were elegant and lovely. Climax of the film was very sad, and I was speechless as I was holding my breath and crying. Although Devdas was intoxicated most of the time in the film, he has sent an excellent lesson to today's teens and also to young people about what alcohol can do for them. Although it was very depressing after the first time, I have watched this film four times and every time, it got better. I am not sure that this is a true love story, but it can be a true story.
