Capricorn One Trailers

In order to protect the reputation of the American space program, a team of NASA administrators turn the first Mars mission into a phony Mars landing. Under threat of harm to their families the astronauts play their part in the deception on a staged set in a deserted military base. But once the real ship returns to Earth and burns up on re-entry, the astronauts become liabilities. Now, with the help of a crusading reporter, they must battle a sinister conspiracy that will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden.

It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

If you're willing to overdose on suspension of disbelief pills and overlook the multitude of absurdities in Capricorn One, you can enjoy it for what it is: a silly, campy, thriller that only the most gullible conspiracy theorists would take seriously.Okay, the idea of (1) a shady element within NASA planning and executing a plot within a few weeks designed to fake a mission to Mars AND FOOL THE REST OF NASA, (2) erasing the existence of a suspicious engineer without anyone else at NASA, his neighborhood, family, etc . . noticing, (3) O.J. Simpson being taken seriously as an actor, and so on is all perfectly absurd. But hey, it's only a movie, and Telly Savalas' cameo is worth the price of admission.Bottom line: pop this movie into the DVD player, open a beer, remove your brain, and enjoy this generally fun movie. If you believe any of it is remotely plausible, you'll believe Oliver Stone's "JFK" as well.

This is by far one of the most underrated movies of all time. I can't help to think that due to its thematic, this film has been stepped over. I remember seeing this film for the first time about 20 years ago, and it raised many questions regarding the moon landing of 1969. In fact I believe it was rather gutsy for the filmmakers to give away such a taboo theme on the big screen, only some 8 years after the supposed moon landing of 1969.I am sure that a movie such as this one made in 1977, could not pass to the public of 2015. I believe that the public 40 years ago was more jaded to deception, and far less gullible to the matters of the government cover ups.Who knows, maybe it's all because of O.J. Sipmson.

This is one of my favourite 70's films - it has the best elements from that era - a big, over-the-top plot, a conspiracy theory and plenty of paranoia and jeopardy. The mounting tension is perfectly captured in Jerry Goldsmith's music and although some of the acting leaves a lot to be desired, the whole thing is a fantastic entertainment. Hal Holbrook does a magnificent job of playing the man who has found himself trapped between his old fly-boy buddies and the demands of his superiors, and Brenda Vaccaro plays to perfection the quiet scene with the children as she struggles with the loss of her husband. There are few films that get me so enthusiastic as we settle down to watch, but this one has me thinking 'oh yeah!' whenever that brilliant theme music starts. The only reason I held back one star is that it could have been even better. If I may add my thoughts about a possible re-make. Normally I don't like re-makes, they nearly always turn out much worse than the original and tend to sully the memory, but in this case I would be very intrigued to see what could be done. The only thing that would bother me would be the lack of the '70's effect'. Most of the 70's conspiracy flicks have the very same feel as Capricorn One - I don't know what it is, the photography, the sound, the overall style or whatever, but it is instantly recognisable and we would lose it unless the team made a conscious effort to re-create it.

I guess it must be me, but I found that this film was boring, filled with plot holes, and weakly executed. I love sci-fi movies and the way they described this one seemed to catch my eye. I read the review on the DVD, and I was misled completely. I thought there would be a bigger storyline especially with the Mars mission, not just one or two scenes that were faked. I was also disappointed because you never knew the fate of the astronauts. On the front of the DVD box it explains that the mission was a hoax, I get that; but the murders were real. When I watched it last night, I didn't see any murders. The only mysterious thing that happened was, one of the controllers disappeared. He knew too much and he had to go, there was no more on his disappearance except that someone moved into his apartment and claimed to be living there for a year. I didn't see anything exciting about this movie, I guess I was expecting something along the lines of Outland. Outland has a totally different plot but it doesn't lack the excitement.I bought this movie at Amazon because I read the review and thought I could not go wrong. I don't see what the praise is about it? When it started I thought it was going to be good, but it quickly changed due to the rushed plot. The mission was a go, but quickly the astronauts were quickly rushed out and on a plane to a desolate Air field in the middle of Arizona. The three of them were told the mission was going to be a sham, O.K. still has potential. Then you only see two fake Mars scenes like W.T.F.. The mission take a total of some 200 some days, with only 2 scenes once they land? This is where I lose interest; and the plot is really rushed. On their return home something goes wrong and they burn up on reentry. The astronauts know what is going on while this sham is taking place and decide to escape. Once the escape they each take off in different directions. They are hunted down by military helicopters, but you don't know their fate just that their flares go off.I am really disappointed now, because of the lack of excitement. The ending is also a poorly executed one. What happens after the memorial service. I have learned my lesson on this and won't get fooled again. I will rent it before I buy it.THX, Kris L. CocKayne
