I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

Well I first watched this movie when I was 18 in 1994 and, feeling a little nostalgic thought I'd give it another look as I remembered it being good. Most times when you've watched a movie at a younger age and re visit it its never the same and left with the feeling of 'what the hell did I see in this'. Im happy to report that this movie is still as original as I remember and still a good watch. It was never a mainstream movie and was a new concept when first released. The acting is mostly good and the music chosen fits in well with the story line. This has got to go down as one of the classics from the 90's that everyone from that period needs to see at least once.

Edward Furlong stars as Michael in "Brainscan". Michael is what you would call a "gamer" in today's terms. He finds out about a new video game called "Brainscan" from a friend and orders a copy. The game transports him into the P.O.V of a killer. He then finds out the murder was real. This is a well made B movie, 90's up and down. It has a great atmosphere and characters and is endlessly entertaining. Director John Flynn works well with Furlong to create a tension driven morality tail. T. Ryder Smith is also great here. An over the top performance, yes. But it works in all levels here. He is both funny, likable and scary all at the same time. This reminds me of "Twilight Zone" and similar shows that take you into a distorted reality. Loved this film. 7 out of ten stars

I saw this movie when it first came out in the '90s, and watched it again just last night. I have to say it was even more enjoyable the second time around. While the supernatural aspects of the story are invaluable to the plot, the true horrors explored here are psychological and moral. It is very similar to what some theologians call a "dark night of the soul." Here, the protagonist's personal choices in dealing with awful and unprecedented situations that are leading him slowly and surely to a terrible fate and ultimately clarify for him what is truly important in life. The protagonist, Michael Brower, wallowing in fear and self-pity, obsessed with horror, finally learns what terror really is and what he must do in order to deal with it.I hesitate to call Brainscan life-affirming, but there are important lessons here, nevertheless, for those who call see them.

Did you ever have that dream where you woke up but the bad or weird thing continued to exist in real life? And then you REALLY woke up? Or did you? If so, you'll love this film. I'm not easily surprised but this movie fooled me more than once. The actors are charismatic. The scary guy has this great punk look and what has to be a naturally evil face. Stop reading here if you haven't seen it. The new video game Brainscan comes out and this young horror movie fan tries it. Soon he imagines cutting off someone's foot. Imagine his horror at finding a human foot in his fridge the next day. Then he comes back to reality. Or does he? There's a great scene at the end when he hands the game disk to the high school principle who banned his horror movie club. A refreshing change; this horror film is actually scary and suspenseful.
