Disturbing yet enthralling

... View MoreThrough painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

... View MoreThis movie gets a straight A (10 out of 10) because it really moved me. I was very glad that I did not took the other reviews too serious. Especially the fact that it was supposed to be a science fiction! This movie has nothing to do with science fiction. And even though the "apocalypse" is mentioned in the movie, it's not at all the main theme! The theme of this movie is Bokeh. First I thought that Bokeh is a place in Iceland, but it's not. It's the parts in photo's that are out of focus and have taken shapes that still and actually do belong to the photo just as much as what's in focus. The focus in this movie is two young people making a visit to Iceland."Bokeh" is formed by the people that were around as well, but didn't have their attention. They were focused on themselves and the beauty of Iceland. By the way, the scenery is pictured wonderfully and beautifully! That alone could be a reason to watch it. But, this is a movie that deserves patience and resilience against watching extremely difficult situations. The difficulty in this case is caused by mental and emotional challenges. Note that there's no violence at all! As soon as the "bokeh", i.e. the other people disappear those extremely difficult situations evolve slowly but surely. This movie moved me so much because it confronted me with my own loneliness, i.e. without being alone! Sometimes feeling lonely feels good. However, my challenge is not to feel painfully lonely, knowing that I am not at all alone. The challenge for the people in the movie is finding out how to deal with being ALL ALONE ... which to me might provide a new meaning to loneliness. Watch for yourself how they deal with it and learn by raising questions to yourself about what you'd feel & do.
... View MoreI just this moment finished watching Bokeh on Netflix. I almost didn't get past the first 10 minutes, because I couldn't understand anything the main characters were saying. Quiet voices, largely drowned out by slightly louder music. Plus several scenes where a (hard to make out) conversation was being overlaid on top of different scenes, where the characters were apparently talking to each other. It looked for all the world like the worst dubbing job in the history of cinema. But I did finish the film and gave it seven stars. Why?PRO TIP: -- I turned on the subtitles. The beauty of the light and the gorgeous Icelandic scenery really drew me in. And the music I was so busy complaining about above was often mesmerising. As for the story, it reminded me The Quiet Earth. A better film based on a much better book, but one not nearly as beautiful as Bokeh.I watched Bokeh in a kind of daze. It's a lush diversion.

View MoreVery interesting idea and it does make one think about what it is to exist and what we need to exist - what is life basically? but it really didn't have the staying power to last for over an hour. It would probably have been better to have been made into a short as the narrative, characters and story itself couldn't really make it interesting enough for a full 1 and a half hours. It does make one think and I think that is a good thing these days in the age of CGI and remakes but only if you are in the mood for it and are interested enough in this type of film as it is not a typical scifi "crash bang wallop" fans movie at all and I think this will be why most people will find it long drawn out and uninteresting. It did seem at times a bit of an advert for the Icelandic tourist board lol and in reality it probably had a lot to do with it. I guess you also have to realise that the Norwegians, Icelanders etc have a different mindset when it comes to intelligent movies and it does sometimes feel as if they read too much into things or as we say up here in Scotland "A bit up your own Kazoo".I did like the ending; most unusual and I do like movies that deviate from the norm especially to the extremes that this one does. Its a passable average 5 out of 10 but nothing more, it will make you think about life if you are in the mood but then again it will also make you think "why didn't they commandeer a boat and sail to Europe" or "go on a car road trip to Europe" - I don't think any of us would have just stayed in Iceland, its a nice place to visit but i wouldn't choose to live there for any length of time so perhaps it would have been a better story if the writer had allowed the pair to adventure and struggle to get home rather than just lie down and fester in their own juices somewhere that was unfamiliar but I surmise that the Icelandic tourist board would not have been happy about that!Be aware of what the movie is and tries to be before you go into it and you might just find it gives your "noodle" a workout which is a good thing!
