There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

So someone is reading this and saying "How could this camp masterpiece be funnier?" Simple: Julie Newmar. Lee Meriwether just doesn't have it as Catwoman. Neither did Earth Kitt. For the TV show there was only one Catwoman, Julie Newmar. So that's why this gets a 6.

I have never seen the Adam West Batman show but know that it has become legendary for how silly it is and how entertaining it was in its goofiness. Having at least known a little about the show, I was very eager to watch this and I was not disappointed. I guess it appealed to me because it's very 1960's. It's just great to see all these actors together. Even though it doesn't take itself seriously, this really isn't a disgrace to Batman at all. The superheroes play it fairly straight given how goofy their environments are. Even the shark repellent has some relevance to the plot.It was great just watching all the little things from the show show up. I liked seeing those written sound effects near the end. The gag where they climb up a building with a guest star was included as well. Everyone is camping it up and doing their hammy best in this delightfully silly and colorful movie. This was the first Batman movie ever made and it's hard not to enjoy something that's so silly but never to the point where it gets annoying. Is it one of the best Batman movies? No, but it includes all the goofiness from the show and even has a nice little moral about not wanting to alter people's beliefs at the end. ***

When I sat to watch this movie I did not have any information about it and I expected nothing at all. But I received a lot. This might not be movie of excellent quality, but it surely is the most comic- bookish movie I have ever seen. It's not so much a movie as it is comic-book brought to life on big screen. Comic fans who take comics too seriously probably hate this adaptation, but for the rest of us, who simply love fun comics provide, this is probably the best Batman movie ever. It is modernized and parodied version of old Batman series from 40's. Dark component is kicked out and what is left is hilarious and entertaining action full of wacky lines. Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Cat-woman join together to blackmail the whole world. Clash of their super-villain egos while they are trying to cooperate is hilarious. Their looks, speech and behavior are totally comic-bookish, and Lee Meriwether is incredibly sexy in Cat- woman costume. All four, together with Batman and Robin and whole story- line, exaggerate to the point of going to far, but manage to balance at the very edge of good taste and successfully avoid to tumble into the abyss of complete nonsense. Add to that sharks filled with dynamite, countless gadgets, all labeled with big banners "bat-this" and "bat-that", banalized chases, and bombs that take forever to explode, and you'll get unforgettable comic-book comedy that leaves no one indifferent. This is one of those movies you can either love or hate. There's nothing in between. Oh, yes, I must not forget "ouch", "splash", "boom" and similar strip clouds that pop up in all sizes and colors all around the screen during action scenes.I haven't seen all Batman movies just yet, but I did see at least one from every series, so I can say with some certainty that this one is my favorite Batman. 9/10Could be any one of them, but which one?Pretty fishy what happened to me on that ladder. Where there's a fish, there could be Penguin.Wait! It happened at the sea. See? C for Cat-woman.Yet, that exploding shark was pulling my leg. The Joker? It all adds up to a sinister riddle. Riddle-er... Riddler?

A lot of time when a TV show is transferred up onto the big screen, it loses some of its luster because of the change in format. A bigger budget, bigger cast, and bigger run-time often equal a bigger, different approach to the storytelling. In "Batman", that is case for about the first 30 minutes. After that, it settles back into its roots and becomes the great entertainment it was on the small screen. For a basic plot summary, "Batman" sees the Caped Crusader (Adam West) and his sidekick Robin (Burt Ward) fighting crime as usual in Gotham City. This time, though, they aren't just fighting one criminal but FOUR. The Penguin (Burgess Meredith), Catwoman (Lee Merriwether), Joker (Caesar Romero), and Riddler (Frank Gorshin) have all teamed up to hatch a nefarious plot to take over the world. For the first half hour of this movie, it is clear that the producers are just "showing off". We get the Bat Boat, Batcopter, and even a prolonged sequence featuring an exploding shark and a can of Bat-Repellent Shark Spray (!). The budget for this movie was far and away larger than the shoestrings they had to work with on ABC, so I can see where the producers wanted to feature things that they couldn't in the weekly grind. However, the storytelling suffers. The villains appear awkward together on screen, there is very little humor, and a lot of the fun of the experience is sapped.Luckily, after that dry stretch, the film really turns around and starts to reach its epic proportions. The villains start to each get their own individual foibles, the droll acting of Adam West's Bruce Wayne shines, and the humor really cranks up ("some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!"). By the end, it feels like you are watching a regular Batman TV episode.Overall, I very much enjoyed watching this classic film again, being a huge fan of the series. Seeing it in Blu-Ray for the first time, I was amazed at the little details I could now pick up on. I could even tell apart the different blue/purple material in Batman's cowl! If you are a fan of this series, you can't go wrong with this one. Despite being a little sluggish in the beginning and not being able to feature Julie Newmar as Catwoman, this is still a very entertaining entry in the Bat- canon!
