The Dark Knight Returns Part One is a satisfying animated feature that faithfully adapts its source material respectfully. This film was more deserving of a theatrical release than the recent Batman and Superman movie: Dawn of Justice (this review was done in 2016), because this film tells a more faithful Bat-tale than Zack Snyder's recent theatrical outing that left the world disappointed. Thankfully The Dark Knight Returns is a solid story that's been tested time and time again and even influenced Tim Burton's Batman from 1989.The story centers on an aging Bruce Wayne who's retired his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman. Bruce is now living in a much harsher world than the one he knew back in his early thirties; now he's a man approaching sixty and Gotham City desperately needs its hero to return from the shadows and fight against the crime plaguing Gotham once again. The first part of DC's only animated two-parter-to-date is a good start that leads to the meaty conclusion of the story in Part Two, which in turn has influenced media outside The Dark Knight Returns comic, like The Dark Knight Rises and *ahem* Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. A very solid story delivered by capable animation director, and Batman veteran, Jay Oliva. The first part is just one piece of a two-and-a-half-hour film that's been waiting to be seen on screen for generations. If you haven't watched this film yet, well do yourself a favor and watch Parts One and Two of The Dark Knight Returns right away.

The Dark Knight Returns part 1 is the first of the two part movie that focuses to the story line of the well known comic mini-series of 1986 which renewed the Dark Knight character and made him to the character that millions of people, myself included, consider him as one of the best if nor the best superheroes of all time! The story is well known to every average DC comic guy, Bruce after years o been in the retirement he returns to his role of protector of Gotham ,when the crime has gone out of control!Simple, strong and pretty good that story show one important thing about the Cape Crusader, he doesn't create crime ,crime creates him and for that I will quote the new district attorney from Batman: The Animated series when she saw why the criminals in Gotham did what they did "As far as I can see ,you would going to exist in to the life of crime in one form or another", in short Batman didn't create his rogues gallery rather he was forced in action by them! And here we see that this a man who gave it all in order to stop crime and seeing these new criminal trying to destroy his home is something that he can't stand. No one would stand and watch his home being burnt to the ground and do nothing. Now one bonus thing is that Batman isn't at his best here is in his mid fifties and he has a hard time coping with the criminals. But now he never results to killing them, he still believe in the best of humanity! This idea is one that was known about him and with that comic it became again the center of his ideology, that no matter what has happened. And the movie shows that ,for which I am totally satisfied. To the animation is beautiful, dynamic and even colorful and the best you feel every bunch that is given and every taken, the action has cinematic quality and I was thinking "if they combine the two parts in a two and half hour movie and put in the big screen it would awesome!! Surely better than the Killing Joke (2016).As for the voice acting is very good and the best of the team is the ex- Robocop himself Peter Weller ,his deep voice fits perfectly this interpretation of the Dark Knight. Ever time he speeches the awesomeness oozes out. In short we have perfect casting. In summary if you breath go see it now, right now, you won't regret it! The flick it is that good.

Holy cow! Are you freaking serious? This is phenomenal! Absolutely incredible! I don't know if it's accurate at all to the graphic novel, and I really don't care. If anything, this puts the "graphic" in "graphic novel". This is the most brutal Batman movie I've ever seen. It pulls no punches, the gloves have come off and it's a bare-knuckle brawl that lasts 90 minutes. No joke, this movie will kick your ass, chew you up, and spit you out, and you will enjoy every freaking minute of it! There is not one negative thing I can say about this, not, one, thing! For the longest time "Under the Red Hood" was my favorite animated Batman movie, I think this might've beaten it. I can't tell right away, but it's certainly in the top three. When the Bat-a-thon comes to a close, I'll post a list of the "Top 10 Animated Batman Movies", this will no doubt be at least number three on that list.

Why this isn't a ten for overall reviews is beyond me, it's probably one of the best, if not the best Graphic Novel adaptations I've seen, it took me away from the nonsensical and very general and basic story lines. It has a grounded and gritty tone to it which I like.*SPOILER ALERT.*I also like the Political side to it between the American government sending superman out to tell batman to stop and superman having to say if you don't stop I'll have to stop you. (That isn't a quote by the way just me generalizing the situation) However, that scene alone is chilling because you know that the government are just afraid that it'll give hope in Batman, not the government; they had made a treaty but they'd left Gotham to crumble into chaos again, so Batman took action because the government weren't. I like how each story of each character is as important as each other, you didn't feel like one dominated the other and this gives such an awesome and brilliant way to go, sometimes any type of hero media with more than one character can be empty like hmm.... Avengers: Age Of Ultron perhaps. My favorite part had to be the Gotham rising scene against the nuclear attack and the aftermath and Batman rallying people together, that was the imagery of hope there on the screen and that's what Batman is to Gotham, that symbol of hope. (Just like superman is the hope of metropolis or the world you could say.The Story is on point and the visuals are beautiful. so it's a 10/10 for me.
