Babes in Toyland Trailers

11-year-old Lisa has no time for toys; she's too busy taking care of her siblings and cooking for her mother. During the Christmas Eve blizzard, Lisa travels to Toyland in Wizard of Oz-like fashion and arrives just in time for a wedding. Young Mary Contrary is about to marry mean, old Barnaby Barnacle, despite the fact that she loves Jack Be Nimble. Lisa tries to stop this terrible wedding and, together with her new friends, discovers that Barnaby wants to take over Toyland. Lisa, Mary, Jack, and Georgie Porgie ask the Toymaster for help, but he can't help them as long as Lisa doesn't truly believe in toys.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

Early eighties, cheesy, low budget, badly dubbed, yes, but Babes in Toyland still has the power to entertain and fill with the joy of toys, childhood and Christmas. No-one in the film was brilliant, even Drew Barrymore and Pat Morita struggled in places and were a little acting-by-numbers but there was also some great chemistry on screen and Barrymore, Reeves, Schoelen and Gress looked genuinely like they were enjoying themselves and given the subject matter were pretty committed to role, even if it was a bit hammed up. The worse bit of the film was definitely the dubbing (worse than films of that era generally) and the songs were terrible. I think the actor's voices were used but it was obvious who the good singers were(Reeves has a good voice) and who's dubbing was totally someone else. The bad guy Mulligan was good at being bad and Eileen Brennan brought a little of comedy in her familiar style to the film.Definitely a children's film, although not nervous children as the bad monsters were pretty awful looking, but it was light, fun with lots of familiar characters to recognise. Probably just enough for adults in the film too - some slapstick antics from the two bad sidekicks Mack and Zack - and the car chase scene was a bit of a giggle. Reeves pulls off a rather impressive stunt type skid in the Toyland car, which was probably quite hard to do given the slow speed! This wasn't as bad as I expected, and whilst it is incredible low budget and massively dated, there were some entertaining performances. Drew Barrymore (even badly dubbed to the point of jet lag) is always good to watch and Keanu Reeves swashbuckling around as Jack be Nimble (jnr) when he was in his early twenties is... well... a pleasure.

I thought this movie was very cute, everyone sounds like it was a death sentence trying to sit through it. True the music was corny, the storyline weak and the actors needed to go back to acting school but it was a nice 2 hour movie. A good way to take your mind off your troubles. If only life were like this fantasy movie and problems could be solved as easy as a smile and a hug, this is wholesome, innocent goodness you don't see in movies anymore. The cliché of good vs. evil, the over-dramatic heroine, the friendship of strangers whom you met for the first time but feel like you have known them for a lifetime.I got Babes in Toyland when it came out on VHS and I was very disappointed with the release, the movie was shortened to a mere 94 minutes and key plot developments and musical numbers were lost, hopefully the filmmakers will release it on DVD in a fully restored uncut edition complete with a behind the scenes look at the making of the movie and exclusive cast interviews.Every actor in the movie industry needs a starting point, a movie that even they can look at and say, "Oh my God I was in that!" Also, it was a made-for-TV movie so what can you expect "Gone With The Wind?" I don't think so. I guess you can say that NBC did the best they could, after all for a network that in the future would bring us "Friends" and "Deal or No Deal" it was a small and humble beginning.

I think the person who wrote the comment before me analyzed the movie to much. Babes In Toyland is a fun movie for everyone. And its a movie, about fantasy and stuff, so to question why they believed Barnaby, the answer would be that its a movie. If they didn't believe Jack then where would the story line have gone? The movie would've practically been over and there'd be nothing left really. I thought the movie was very silly and fun. I'm now almost 17 and have been watching this movie since I was little, and I still enjoy it today. If anybody likes going back to their childhood and seeing movies that remind them of their childhood, and like fantasy as well, I would recommend this movie to them. Its a joy to watch.

While some people might say that this movie is not worth seeing, I, for one, disagree. I am 23 years old and still love to watch this movie every now and then. Forget the fact that it is one of the first movies that you can see Drew Barrymore in or that an actor like Keanu Reeves became the star he is, and just focus on the story. For any of you who have seen the original (with Annette Funicello) you shouldn't compare the two because they are completely different. Both, however, have fantastical themes put to song. The songs are cute and enthusiastic. I'm no movie critic (although I rarely agree with critics views on movies) but I feel that this movie is worth seeing at least once to form your own opinion on it. Keep your mind open and your heart light and you should enjoy this movie. Happy viewing!
