Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Quiet Muffin

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

Fulke

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Shivam(Emraan Hashmi) is an atheist and a criminal as well who went to prison twice for the crime he committed. He works for Daulat Malik to whom he is forever indebted. He is very smart, successful and happy for what he do until he meets Aaliyah(Shreya Saran) and falls in love with her. What she wanted what was to convert him from an atheist to god fearing man so that they can meet after they die, in heaven. Then what happens later changes Shivam's life forever. He also meets Reema(Mrinalini Sharma) Through whom things starts to change drastically.Bhatts have produced many good movies so far. I saw gangster and felt that it was the film ever taken by the Bhatts. Awarapan has the same standard. I heard the song tera mera rishta first and i loved it and bought the CD. Then i saw the song video and i was fascinated by the direction in songs alone. When i saw i loved it. When we hear the theme or the story from someone we may think that it is nothing but an ordinary mobster story. The direction is stupendous. Mohit Suri can be considered as one of the best in India. Songs are great.Tera mera rishta, Toh Phir aao, Mahiya and Maula Maula are of top class. coming Ro the rest, Everone did well their respective roles. I used to hate Emraan Hashmi in movies like Aashiq Banaya Aapne, gangster, murder etc. Before watching this i saw Raaz the mystery continues where i felt that he was good but he was very good in this. Ashutosh Rana and Ashish Vidyarthi very good as the villains. Mrinalini Sharma seems less lively at some parts at the beginning, she did well especially towards the end. Inspite of having less role even Shreya Saran was good in her role. The direction and the songs the two most impressive aspects of this film. all those who liked gangster will definitely like this. Awarapan is worth watching as well a s collecting. Beautiful film. 8/10

Vishesh films have given several good films like Gangster which became huge hits despite being low budget films AWARAPAN was their big budget film since long time and one of the reason the film flopped The movie was good though, despite being a copy of A BITTERSWEET LIFE The handling by Mohit Suri is great Emraan's character is handled brilliantly and the director manages to involve spirituality and other things very well The first half is slow but yet the scenes are very well handled, the flashback portion is good and also the entire Pre-interval point The 2nd half gets more intense and despite some cinematic liberties, the film is brilliantly handled Tera Mera Rishta comes at the apt place and makes a strong impact The spirituality angle looks in sync and is handled well The entire climax though filmy yet stands out esp the scene between Ashutosh and EmraanDirectorally Mohit Suri takes many steps ahead from his previous works, though his storytelling is slight flawed at places Music(Pritam) is perfect, esp To Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishtaa cinematography is superbPerformances Emraan Hashmi till this film was not known as a great actor, but this film changed it all, He handled his role with amazing maturity and restraint Shreya is wonderful in a small role, Mrinalini is good though she tends to screech too much at places Ashutosh Rana is flawless in his part, Shaad Randhawa is good too Purab Kohli is excellent in his part Rehan Khan gets less scopeOverall a good film

Awarapan comes from the stables of ace movie mavericks, Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt, famous for crafting Bollywood's biggest musical hits, Zeher, Woh Lamhe and Gangster.Shot in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Pakistan, Awarapan is an intense and compelling drama about love, passion and betrayal with a chart-busting soundtrack that features for the first time an array of top-notch music artistes from Pakistan.Awarapan tracks the journey of Shivam (Emraan Hashmi), a godless heartbroken boy who has never known or felt love. In order to escape the ghosts of his tragic past, Shivam dedicates himself to serve his gangster boss in Hong Kong with unflinching correctness and loyalty. His boss trusts him enough to ask him to keep an eye on his alluring girlfriend, Reema (Mrinalini Sharma) whom he has kept away from the eyes of his adversaries.Shivam's heart melts on seeing her innocence and vulnerability, as he is able to draw parallels with his girlfriend from the past (Shreya Saran). The atheist turns into a believer and begins smiling and responding to life. Reema gives Shivam reason to believe that she likes him. Existence begins to blush for Shivam but only till the reality dawns on him that Reema has a secret lover tucked away and was planning to elope with him. Her game was merely a smoke- screen created to gain freedom.A shattered Shivam is in a dilemma on realizing that he has been heartlessly used - does he inform his boss or does he earn his wrath by helping his unrequited love to achieve the freedom she yearns for? If anything, 'Awarapan' showcases the acting talent of Emraan Hashmi. The actor steps out of his usual chocolate boy image and plays a very serious and intense role with full conviction. He may not be the deadliest looker around, but he sure does know the art of restraining and underplaying his characters. And his performance in 'Awarapan' proves that he is one of the under-rated talents in Bollywood.Mrinalini Sharma overacts in certain scenes, but manages to play her part fairly well on the whole. Shriya Saran's acting looks very natural. She looks very comfortable playing the brief role she has in the film. Ashutosh Rana is another actor who delivers a superb performance.Mohit Suri succeeds to a great extent in translating an interesting story on celluloid. There are many scenes and sequences (like confrontation between Emraan and Aaliya's father, or Emraan's final sequence with Ashutosh Rana) that are intelligently conceived. The cinematography is visually appealing and the music (by Pritam) is also good.On the whole, 'Awarapan' is worth watching once.
