Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful

It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.

This movie is almost unwatchable. Many have pointed out plot holes and poor writing in general but add to that the cringe inducing voice acting, the feeble attempt at an anime tone and the absolutely horrible editing. There are constant scenes of a character saying something in the middle of a conversation and unexplained delays before the other person says anything back. Maybe it would make sense if the director included a meaningful look or gesture or frankly anything but there's nothing. Half the time, while you're waiting for anyone to respond to a line the scene is just everyone standing or sitting and there's no expression on their face at all. I understand "meaningful" pauses but these are just pauses that make no sense. So the writing is a mess, the voice acting is painful and the editing barely exist. Avoid this movie as if it will give your brain cancer - because it will.

I'll cop to having read a few issues of The Punisher back in the 90s, when I was barely a teenager. I believe it was actually the only Marvel title I ever read until the introduction of Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel. The Punisher isn't just a dinosaur, he's a relic designed to appeal to the worst kind of 13-year old male power(- less) fantasies. The impetus for the film's action is basically one pathetically insecure guy who doesn't think he's 'man enough' to receive the Black Widow's affections.. so he betrays SHIELD and reinvents himself as a super- powered villain. Classic example of the self-entitled 'Nice Guy' stereotype.Black Widow, of course, is here merely as fanservice.Terrible plot, banal dialog - at one point, there's a line about how many men Fury brought to subdue The Punisher, and even a mediocre hack would've known to riff on the fact that one woman was all it took. The art quality is decent, and I can only wish more Anime had English-language casts this good, but there is nothing else to this production's credit.I'd think fans of The Punisher or Black Widow would especially hate this - not only are they poorly characterized, but they're done so in canon-breaking manner. I men, according to Wikipedia Frank Castle is "in complete control of his mind" and immune to psychological assault, but here he gets brainwashed.. by an iPhone.

Reviewed by: Dare Devil KidRating: 3.7/5 starsA terrific feature for two of Marvel's relatively unsung heroes – Black Widow and Punisher. Black Widow is presented with all her sex appeal, charisma, spunk, and martial arts skills, while Punisher is shown as an eternally laconic cynic with raw muscle power, toughness, and copious amounts of gray shades – just how we've come to love them from the comics. We're also introduced to a new villainous organization (with hints of a possible link to HYDRA) that could make its presence felt in future Marvel outings, even in the upcoming movie ventures. During the climax, the fans are even treated to special appearances from some of the more famous members of the Avengers. The screenplay is very good and keeps us engrossed for the film's short runtime. The animation is more than decent for a direct-to-video offering.Marvel studios is consistently bringing us memorable tales like these in the form of neat, little videos to accompany their top quality, big- budget, full-length feature films. First is was the two "Ultimate Avengers" videos, then came "Thor: Tales of Asgard", and now this. All in all, this is a thoroughly enjoyable little fare that admirably doffs its hat to two heroes of the Marvel universe that have contributed a lot in the background, but never really been given top billing.

When I saw the title I thought it was going to be more of a Black Widow/Punisher story than anything and I was right I thought it made Punisher look like the bad*** that he is but it wasn't much of the Avengers the last 10-15 minutes had the Avengers appear which was for me the best part but the long drawn out story with Punisher and Black Widow was kinda dry more talking than anything it was somewhat boring but it was nice to see Punisher get to show how great he is the used Avengers in the name to get the dollars but it should have been called "Black Widow and the Punisher: Fight the Lavethian" ft. The Avengers cause that is pretty much what it was if it wasn't for the free ticket to see The Amazing Spiderman 2 that came with it I would be somewhat upset that I spent money on it
