The fledgling romance between Nick, a playboy bachelor, and Suzanne, a divorced mother of two, is threatened by a particularly harrowing New Years Eve. It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

So Ice Cube plays a character named "Nick Persons" who owns a sports collectables store, he meets "Suzanne Kingston" played by Nia Long, he finds out she has two kids "Lindsey" and "Kevin", he doesn't like kids in general, but really wants to get to know this woman "Suzanne Kingston", they become friends, he offers to take her kids to Canada to meet her at her job, whether he wants more than friendship or is just being a friend is unclear, it seems to be both. The majority of the movie is about "Nick" and the kids trying to get to Canada, the kids cause all kinds of mayhem making it difficult to get there. Nia Long is more of a supporting character, while the main characters are "Nick" and the kids. The comedy factor is a 4 out of 10, there are only a couple of scenes that are actually humorous and one of them is with the car ticket inspector, it's a watchable film even though the majority of it is not even funny. The performances are a 7 out of 10, Nia Long's performance is not very good even though she has very little screen time, the emotion that she is supposed to have at times is not believable enough, it's half- believable when she is arguing with her ex-husband on the phone at the airport, everything else especially at the end is just wooden acting on her part. Ice Cube gives a good performance, at times his performance is over the top example when he teaches "Kevin" how to do "the look", it is just so cringe-worthy that it isn't even funny, the kids are actually good actors, the girl is a bit more realistic than the boy, the faces that the boy pulls at times looks unnatural. The majority of "Are We There Yet?" is great except for this one scene with the fake deer, the deer ends up in a physical fight with Ice Cube's character and the deer punches him as if it's a human being, they wrestle and the deer runs off, it's supposed to be funny, but it is just a really stupid scene, it would've been better if they'd have just had the deer look at them and walk off and have the kids say "wow" or something like that. The beginning of the movie shows "Nick" buying an expensive flashy navigator car, the car ends up getting wrecked and completely destroyed by the end of the movie. We see "Nick's" frustrations with the kids, we see the kids go out of their way to make everything difficult for him, by the near end of the film "Nick" starts to have love in his heart for the kids even though they cause him so much trouble. There is an emotional scene where the kids go to visit their dad who apparently is sick and in bed, they go to his house only to see through the window that he is not sick at all and that he has a new baby and a new wife and looks happy, the kids are devastated, "Nick" finds them and has sympathy for them which helps him to start having love in his heart for them. One of the main things about movies is that there is a lack of communication, we see this in this flick when "Suzanne" blames "Nick" for endangering her kids, he fails to explain everything and the kids do not speak up and admit all the havoc that they caused, scenarios like this can be frustrating for the viewers, but in the world of film there is always non-full communication so that by the end of a movie - characters can find out what truly happened which can make their relationships stronger and give it a non-boring ending. The sequel is pointless and dull, we see by the end of this movie that "Nick" ends up with "Suzanne", so obviously they'll end up getting married and become a family, they didn't need to make a sequel to show us this, the sequel is more of the same thing, with mishaps happening only with a different plot. If you're going to make a sequel make sure the plot is strong enough to be as good as the first or even better. If you still haven't seen these movies, watch this one and skip the sequel.

Ah, Ice Cube! You've given us so many great characters and movies: "Boyz in the Hood," "Friday," and the "Barbershop" series. You've become a favorite name to Hollywood fans everywhere! How could you do any wrong?...Surely this movie will give us the answer! In this movie, Ice Cube plays Nick, a man who owns a sports store and catches the eye of Suzanne, played by Nia Long. He wants to date her, but they both realize they can't because of Suzanne's kids. When Suzanne needs to go to Vancover for business, she learns the father of the kids can't take them to the airport. Nick volunteers to take them, and learn just what it means to host a pair of really bad, undisciplined kids.OK, let's start with the good things; to be fair, there are a few good things. First of all, Ice Cube is in this movie. Remember what I said about Queen Latifah as an actress in "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz?" Ice Cube is the same way. Also, I like the nice and quiet moment his character has with the kids. Scenes like when he tells them good bye toward the end or when he talks to them about their father. Those are nice, subtle moments. Now, what doesn't work about the movie?...A LOT OF THINGS!!! First of all, I don't like these characters at all! Ice Cube's character is cool, he's pretty much playing a PG-rated version of himself. But the other characters are just despicable and unlikeable! The kids are obviously just cruel and mean! I know we're supposed to feel sorry for them because of their father, but I can't stand them at all! First of all, look at everything they put Nick through! That's not innocent kids acting out because of a lack of a father, that's kids who need to be whooped! Second of all, they're not charming or caring; they're rude, mean, and selfish! Remember the scene at the birthday party where some kid was bullying Kevin, the son? His sister didn't lift a finger to help him! She just stood there and looked at him!One can see why these rotten kids are so selfish, because their mom is equally as selfish! She had Nick jump her car in the rain...just because! He gave her a ride home once, and she asks him to ride her to and from the house everyday! She expects him to get on the plane with her kids, KNOWING what her kids do to her boyfriends! After EVERYTHING that she allows those demon kids to put Nick through, she chooses to get mad at Nick without gathering all the facts! And after she's determined that Nick was irresponsible with the kids, she decides to fall in love with him simply because he sits on the bed and talks to the kids! WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!? Hey Suzanne, maybe if you had taken care of your own kids, you wouldn't have gone through any of this or allowed anyone else to go through this! How about the numerous movie clichés in this movie that we've seen to death in other movies: the man who realizes the kids only need a father figure, the slapstick action with the kids, the animal that goes unbelievably crazy after a camera flash - even the kid who throws up in the car after someone says "What could you possibly do worse to this car?" It's predictable, boring, and just weird.Believe me, there are other stupid, very awkward moments - like the bobblehead voiced by Tracy Morgan, or the deer/kangaroo (what was that thing?), or the fact that NO PARENTS at the birthday party did anything with the kids!!! - but the deal breaker for me is the characters. These are just awful characters! The only character I really like or feel anything for is Ice Cube playing...Ice Cube, really! The kids suck, the mom sucks, the babysitter sucks, the kids & parents at the party suck, the truck drivers suck! If you want to see Ice Cube experience a lot of things he doesn't deserve, you may like this movie. If you don't want to see awful characters do terrible things to an innocent man, you should definitely skip this film! BOOYIKA!

The first thing that sprang to my mind when watching this film is just why would somebody like Ice Cube, a man raised on the streets of California, a man with a history of acting in some good films (Boyz In The Hood, Three Kings) choose to take the lead role in this family road comedy, 'Are We There Yet?'! Not only that but choose to produce it with his company Cube Vision! And to think they've made a sequel! The most basic of plots, 'Are We There Yet?' focuses upon Nick (Ice Cube)and his attempts to woo a divorced mother of two Suzanne (Nia Long) into dating him. When Suzanne is stuck at work in Vancouver it falls to Nick to save the day and drive the kids some 350 plus miles to be with their mother at New Year.OK, a lack of plot doesn't mean a bad comedy, however when you go the whole 90 minutes without uttering so much as a chuckle, now thats a bad comedy. The problem is the script is just so clunky and formulaic, if anybody did get any laughs from this it would be in anticipation of a constant stream of ever failing scripted gags. On top of this the success of the family comedy is so often built on the development of the characters and a likability factor emerging between them and the audience. As people have previously mentioned, the 'Home Alone' franchise is a good example of this because although Macaulay Culkin is mischievous he is still very likable. This is a stark contrast to the two kids in 'Are We There Yet?' Kevin and Lindsey (Philip Bolden and Aleisha Allen) who can only be described as demonic! It is nothing against the kids acting, which is fine, but they are provided with such an unforgiving script that they really don't have a single redeeming feature. If I comment about a film I try to present a balanced opinion yet other than the fact that Ice Cube acted fairly well I can't think of a single good thing to say about this movie. Whilst there is nothing wrong with low-brow humour (farting, puking, sticking tongues out at each other are all present) if done well, every single gag in the film has been done at least a hundred times before, and a whole of a lot better to boot. In conclusion avoid this film and save your money.

Are we there yet is a clichéd film about a man named Nick(Ice Cube) who falls in love with a woman played by Nia Long. Ms. Long has two kids who could charitably be called hellions. They cause Nick to wreck his car, get beaten up, and generally show no respect for a guy who is doing a HUGE favor for their mother, although why she would miss these bratty terrors is a mystery. Ice Cube is okay as the put upon nice guy who has to take all the abuse from these monsters. Nia Long is okay too, I guess, however the actors playing the kids are horrific. This movie should be shown to suspected Al Qaeda terrorists, having to watch this dreadful waste of celluloid would make them talk. Avoid this movie at all costs, unless you have some sort of masochist desire to watch one of the worst family films of all time.
