I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

You never know what you're getting with one of Seagal's straight-to-DVD movies. Some, like Into the Sun, are just horrible, while others, like Urban Justice, are excellent. This one was pretty good. Oh, you had the negatives - an overweight, old-looking Seagal with labored breathing and a weird toupee' like Little Eddie from The Munsters. Also, Seagal insists on having that phony southern accent in all of his latest films. Then, there's his hot wife at the beginning of he film, who's at least 35 years younger than Seagal and she gives him a nude lap dance while he grabs her boob. The things actresses will do to get a part! Then, we have Tia, an attractive 20 year old woman and Sergey, a good-looking young man of around the same age. They have good chemistry together as they face danger throughout the film. But guess who gets Tia at he end? Here's a clue: not Sergey. Yuck! The villains were well-portrayed and the acting was very good. The cinematography was great - very well-directed and included some breathtaking Canadian scenery (Okay, the huge parking lot in front of a majestic lake with snow-capped mountains - then again, everything in Canada is snow- capped). The dialogue was pretty funny. Seagal actually told Tia to shut the **** up. Then, the head Russian dude told a dirty cop what they do to cops in Russia..I can't repeat it here, but it's classic. Seagal went over the edge in this one early on in the film when he tells a guy he's going to **** him up ugly. Then he proceeds to do with the barrel of a handgun what Joe Peschi did with a Bic pen to that guy in Casino. Then here was the unintentionally funny scene where the Chinese commandos, under the cover of darkness and faces painted black, lay siege to the headquarters. One small error - they have high-beam flashlights that would make them visible mile away. The climactic gun battle was a bit too long - it actually lulled me to sleep and I had to go back.

A Dangerous Man starts as ex Special Forces war hero Shane Daniels (Steven Seagal) chases off a man attacking his wife Holly (Aidan Dee) who is later found brutally murdered. Shane is convicted of the man's murder & spends six years in an Arizona state prison before being cleared of all charges & released due to new DNA evidence, his first night as a free man & Shane heads straight to a shop to buy some Bourbon but is confronted by muggers whom Shane beats up, leave for dead & steal their car. While drinking his Bourbon by himself Shane witnesses a local cop being shot dead by Chinese gangsters, Shane gets involved & after killing one of the Chinese discovers a bag full of money & a drugged woman named Tia (Marliana Mah) in the back of their car. Shane decides to take both & leaves the scene with Russian car thief Sergey (Jesse Hutch) who also witnessed the killing, Shane agrees to help the Chinese girl Tia who is wanted by Chinese gangsters & the local corrupt police who also want their money back...Written & directed by Keoni Waxman this is the second Steven Seagal film I have seen in the past couple of days after The Keeper (2009) which was also written & directed by Waxman, for some reason quite a few Seagal films are playing on telly over here now & next up for me watch is Driven to Kill (2009) but that's for another time. Anyway, I quite liked The Keeper, it wasn't brilliant but as far as action thrillers go it wasn't half bad & I suppose I wanted too much to expect two straight to video Seagal films to be of decent quality as A Dangerous Man is definitely a notch below The Keeper but having said that still better than some of Seagal's other straight to video crap he has churned out over the past decade. The script has a reasonable story but doesn't do much with it, for instance it's never really explained why Seagal doesn't step in sooner to save the cops life or even why he bothers to get involved at all, the story behind Tia's uncle is unclear as it's originally said she wants help to smuggle him into the US but by the time the film ends he is in the US but who got him there? If it was the bad guy's why not just take him hostage as soon as they reached the US? Why all the shoot-outs & runaround? It never really gels or makes perfect sense, your never really fully behind the character's either with the relationship between Daniels & Tia feeling very awkward with virtually no chemistry there at all although the obvious age difference along with Seagal's mumbling & obvious lack of acting ability doesn't help matters. The action could have been better too, there are lots of bland shoot-outs, in fact the last forty minutes of the film are just two long shoot-outs. The Chinese guy's attack the Russians & then soon after the Russians attack the Chinese as lots of bullets are fired & lots of people are shot but it's pretty dull stuff with no real energy. Seagal's fight scenes are a mixed bag, I am sure he's using a double here as a lot of the fights are filmed in a way not to show Seagal's face like from the neck down or behind Seagal's character or an object like a shelf obscuring his face. The beginning of the film also features Seagal really hurt two muggers in a way you wouldn't expect from a hero, he mutilates ones face with the barrel of a gun & shoots the other (despite it being his first day out of prison) before stealing their car & blowing it up. There are some really sexy Asian girls featured in this which is worth a mention. Also worth a mention are Waxman's annoying style, you know the sort of things like fast editing, slow motion, silly colours, odd sound effects & misplaced music. With a supposed budget of about $6,500,000 this was filmed in Canada & has reasonable production values, certainly as good as can be expected for this type of film. The acting is alright, obviously Seagal is poor as usual & just mumbles his way through his role & the lack of any chemistry between himself & Marlaina Mah hurts the film.A Dangerous Man isn't that great, it has a decent story that somehow ends up being rather muddled & even though there's plenty of shoot-outs the action is formulaic & forgettable. Not as bad as some of Seagal's recent output but hardly amongst his best.

if the 2009 movie 'Harry Brown', starring Michael Caine confirmed the legendary cockney as The King of Cool, then this release totally confirms Steven Seagal as the toughest guy in the movies. The action, especially the fight scenes is intense and brutal. Seagal's legendary fight with Screwface in Marked For Death is among his best but there are fights in this movie that are as brutal - even if they are not as long in duration. Its a welcome return to close quarter combat from the master of fight choreography. Basically as he (Seagal) said before no-one beats him in the kitchen or the bathroom, the bedroom, the closet or anywhere else anyone might be foolish enough to pick a fight with him.Combined with the pretty decent movie score, the film overall is entertaining as a fight fest, mob war. The villains are good especially The Colonel and the Russian mob boss is the kind of guy you would want on your team right? Who cares if the story is a bit insane, or there is dubbing or even stunt doubles? Its Seagal doing what we love best - kicking ass and not even taking a punch his way. Marvellous.

Basically Steven Seagal is the baddest person on the planet taking on 3 separate groups aligned to kill him and the woman he is protecting. This is like a Mack Bolan book turned into a film. High body count, gore, Asian and Russian gangsters, a corrupt police force, with judo and 'street' fighting skills used heavily as in all Steven Seagal movies. I don't know about you but I never get tired of people getting bones snapped.Don't look too deep into the plot because it's just a killer action flick. If you're looking for a fun action flick with cool characters and plenty of gunfire and broken limbs. Look no further. If you're looking for some kind of developed plot besides 'almost everybody dies' then you might want to look elsewhere. You should know by now what you are getting yourself into with Seagal's movies. If you like pure action - check it out.Steven Seagal should be the next internet meme. He is much more meme worthy then that sellout Chuck Norris. Who does Steven Seagal love ? Nobody. He killed them ALL.
