It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.

I fell into Wentworth somewhere near the end of season 4 but was immediately hooked. The performances were stellar, the characters believable and the technical quality of the show -editing, sound, lighting- beyond good. As stated I fell into it late but kept watching and now were midway into season 6. I began to wonder how it all started and last week started watching the show right from the beginning and wow! It is brilliant right from the first episode and the character development is stunning. It's unbelievable that a show can stay this good for this long and feel fresh. I feel it's important, though not necessary, to watch all episodes as it will give a deep appreciation of how the characters became who they are, like Bea Smith, Frankie, Ferguson, and Kas Proctor. Since I hadn't seen the first 3 seasons I didn't understand the animosity between Bea and Proctor but the way it plays out in the end is beautiful and brilliant. Of course, the obvious comparison would be OITNB but it can't hold a candle to Wentworth even though it's based on the experience of a real person. It is simply inferior. Candy floss versus real grit. Wentworth deserves to be in teh same pantheon as Killing Eve, Downtown Abby, The Fall and Luther to name but a few. The series is easily binged but just as much enjoyed on a less intense basis though many won't be able to stop after one episode, I imagine. Sit back, empathise, get angry, get sad, enjoy. The best Australian drama!

This series touch the hart, scares you to death, and keeps you wanting more and more and more. And just when you think it's over, the plot thickens! You fall inlove with the character well except for the bad guy Joan who we all want DEAD..ha! Seriously this series is ont that I could watch everyday year round. GREAT production, Great character, and halarious but ever so touching. This series takes you to the moon and back and makes you cry and laugh but either way it's amazing!!! Watch it and cheer it like I did! Thank you ladies for a most entertaining production.

The show is based on Prisoner Cell Block H a gritty drama from the 70s and 80s. I recently watched all 692 episodes of Prisoner again and it was top notch, it could make you laugh, cry, angry, sad. Each episode is filled with drama. More happened in the first 10 episodes of the older Prisoner Cell Block H than has happened in all the seasons of Wentworth. The new Wentworth is so boring, yes it has a bit more sex and is a bit more graphic violence wise, but it has no good plots or stories, it doesn't deal with real issues faced by women in prison like Prisoner did and most of all it has absolutely no humour. Prisoner Cell Block H was so, so funny at times with the likes of Lizzy Birdsworth, Doreen Anderson, Bea Smith, Chrissy Latham, Mouse, Lurch etc.. It was a serious drama but you got some real belly laughs from it too. Wentworth on the other hand is totally devout of any humour, Boomer is the only one really giving any laughs and they are silly cheap laughs usually about her size or lack if education.I would recommend not watching Wentworth and going on YouTube (all 692 episodes are free to watch) and watching the original Prisoner it is a million times better.

I have seen this show compared several times to Orange Is The New Black for good reason. They are the same general genre of women in prison with the main character being a middle class white woman who is not really a criminal but not exactly innocent either. However that is where the comparisons end. OITNB is a breezy comedy where most of the core cast are innocent victims of a unfair and unfriendly justice system while Wentworth's core cast are outright criminals where even the most "likable" characters like Liz and Doreen have committed very unlikeable crimes. Also the actions and even inactions on Wentworth have far reaching consequences that often don't get resolved in a single episode or even a season. The best example I can come up with is Liz lagging on Frankie's drug trade in season two has consequences lasting through season three for more then one person on the show. Wentworth is a brilliant show that should be watched by anyone who likes a well told drama with women leading the action. In my opinion it far exceeds anything OITNB has done.
