if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
... View MoreThis is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
... View MoreThe movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
... View MoreYes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
... View MoreSPOILER: Whew. I don't think I have seen Tchéky Karyo like this since I watched him and Jet Li (over and over) in "Kiss of the Dragon." (A must-see, if you liked him in this series. Jet Li is awesome, as well.)At first I thought Karyo would be some minor character, and was feeling a bit disappointed . . . but as the episodes ran on, I came to realize that the story was just as much about him and his his heroic determination to help find the missing children. What a fantastically written and fully fleshed out role for him. He aces it every inch of the way. Compelling, adroit, admirable and downright lovable performance. Gold stars to the actress who played his wife, too. Both seasons are well worth watching. James Nesbitt. I haven't seen him since "Lucky Man," but as soon as I saw he was in this series, I knew it was going to be good, healthy, satisfying entertainment. Keely Hawes I don't always enjoy. She was superb in "Spooks" (aka MI-6). Saw her in something else and thought, "Yeah? So?" She is terrific in this. I like the actor who played her son. The "Adler" twins-----wow. Such fun to watch. All the characters are fascinating. I loved it that it took me a while to recognize Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad, anyone?). She's par excellence in this role.As an American, I am always fascinated by Europeans and their "Hi. I'm Romanian but I speak German and French. That said, let's speak English, shall we?" It was fun just seeing some of the scenery and getting to know the French-German way of life a bit better.I don't want to go on too much, but special mention must be made re: Lena Lauzemis (she plays "Ilsa" toward the end of season 2----only one episode) and Arsher Ali (he plays the evil, soulless journalist). They were both superb in The Missing. One minor gripe with this series, and it's not a big gripe by any means, is the jumping back and forth, hither and yon, from year to year to "Present Day" and all over the place. Sometimes I was sickeningly grateful for the different haircuts and presence of newly introduced characters------otherwise I wouldn't have known where I was a lot of the time, despite being told "2014" or "2006." All of the cast barely aged at all in the 8-11 year spans during which these stories took place. I wish I could stay so young=looking over that long a period of time. One *major* gripe I do have-----SPOILER ALERT-----was the death of one character at the hands of the baddie in season 2. When you see season 2, you'll know who I mean. That death was horrible, tragic and downright evil. I'm glad they got the bastard bad guy in the end. Lock him up in a basement and throw away the key.
... View MoreI enjoyed Season 1 a good deal, but this new season is off the hook. The suspense, the tension, the unknowns (the answers to which are doled out at an agonizingly wonderful pace), the twists, the dialog, the acting. All of it has me on the edge of my seat each episode. Tremendous.
... View MoreSimply terrific,James Nesbitt fascinated me, extremely mature and faithful acting, he is the lead and the same applies for the cast. I loved the Hitchcockian suspense, 'he Shakespearian drama! the cinematography is very smart ²nd beautiful! what I loved the most was how the director focused on the body language a lot and obviously! Nice mature dialogue! Shattered conveying sound track. I love this show simply it's a reference for me! I just didn't buy some tiny details like *might be spoiler* if someone is going to kill himself you could be faster with a gun n shoot on the leg etc! overall perfect work, all talking about season 1.
... View MoreFirst review, but just finished watching Season 2.Season 1 had me rating this as a 9 out of 10, but Season 2 leaves me no choice but to bump that up to a 10 out of 10.I couldn't stop watching, episode after episode, in two sittings. 8 hours of suspense, intrigue, great acting, and a well chosen mix of languages and actors from different countries. It felt authentic and real, sadly too believable. No spoilers here, I would hate that anyone spoiled it for me. But it didn't fail to keep me glued to my TV screen. The locations were well chosen and beautifully filmed. There were some tuff moments, and I can't deny the fact that I shed a tear or two.A subject well treated and not Hollywood glam'd up.
