Absolutely the worst movie.
... View MoreI have absolutely never seen anything like this movie before. You have to see this movie.
... View MoreIt's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
... View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
... View MoreThis is the absolute must for every Nordic Noir fan, as this series is rightfully considered to be a cornerstone of the genre. ''Forbrydelsen'' aired its first season in 2007 when the Scandinavian crime fiction was not as widely known and acclaimed as today and gained instant popularity both in Scandinavian countries as well as the U.K. audiences establishing many characteristics that later on would be imitated by a large number of authors from the northern European countries. The gloomy atmosphere, the socially awkward main protagonist-detective, the emphasis on the social and familial consequences of the crime and the well-crafted plot and character development are some of those traits that the series introduced to mass audiences and managed to gain large popularity and an almost legendary status among the crime television productions of both Europe and U.S. (note that an American remake was made starring the Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos). The central character of Sara Lund is one of the most peculiar, nevertheless interesting criminal investigators in Copenhagen police force, who faces great difficulties in her interpersonal relationships (as her ''successor'' Saga Noren in ''Bron/Broen'') but is absolutely devoted to each case which always becomes sort of personal for her. Sofie Gråbøl does a terrific job in portraying a difficult main character and she is surrounded by a bunch of great Danish actors such as Søren Malling, Lars Mikkelsen, Bjarne Henriksen, Nicolaj Kopernikus and many others. The only negative aspect in the series is the length of the first season (20 episodes of one hour) which could be denser and more suspenseful, but seasons two and three are limited in ten episodes of one hour. ''Forbrydelsen'' is a tv series which should be watched, apart from the entertainment factor of course, due to the profound influence that it had to later television productions and its immediate connection to the 'Nordic Noir' phenomenon and its rise as a separate genre.
... View MoreI am not into crime series at all but knowing that the Danes sometimes do work little wonders with a TV Series I gave this one a shot and watched all episodes in 2 days when I had to lay down after a third molar surgery at the dentist. It was more than 15 hours and not a single one was spent in boredom.A very complex plot with lots of interesting sub plots, a view into Copenhagen's city hall intrigues and very convincing acting of the main characters (Lund, Meyer, Theiss, Pernille, Hartmann) made it a joy to watch.I wonder where this small country takes all the great actors from! They sure don t always look as perfect as all the actors, we know from US movies and TV series, but therefore seem the more authentic and likable (and less 'over optimized').On the downside: especially the end did not meet all my expectations. Many, many questions remain unanswered. The end does not cast a clarifying light on the story as a whole, so you could say "Oh, now it all makes sense" or "Oh yes, I knew it was him all along" or so. The killer is revealed not before the last 90 min without anything making him a suspect before.Rather it turns out, everything before was misleading for the viewer. The really bad thing is, the revelation of the real killer does not seem to be consistent with every detail we learned about along all the episodes, some do even conflict. This leaves somewhat of a bad aftertaste. But after all a really great series to watch.
... View MoreIt is a long sad story where secret past, political convulsions and daily constant misunderstandings intertwine - all in Copenhagen, in a pleasant capital where I spent 3 years in my youth... Anyway, the events are catchy to follow, there are lots of twists, but when the episodes pass you realize that the logic is often "lame" - i guess that watching the whole stuff backwards would prove somewhat odd and malformed picture. The cast is, of course, cream of the cream of contemporary Danish performers (incl. smaller roles), beginning with Sofie Gråbøl, Søren Malling, Lars Mikkelsen, Bjarne Henriksen, Ann Eleonora Jørgensen - to name a few... Plus the characters are well elaborated. Thus, not bad, but I still prefer Bro/Broen and Ørnen: En krimi-odyssé - less gloomy and not so protracted.
... View MoreHaving heard the first two series of THE KILLING raved about since I don't know when, I decided to sit down and actually try out this third and final offering. By the end of it, I was left wondering what the fuss was all about.THE KILLING III is a typical detective show that will be familiar to any fan of Scandinavian crime. It falls far short of the highs of the GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO trilogy, with its story of murder and kidnapping kept deliberately murky and infuriating for much of the running time. The heroine, Sarah Lund, is rather dull, despite her taste for homely jumpers, and she displays little of the drive or emotional depth that seasoned actors in police shows, such as Helen Mirren or Robbie Coltrane, were able to bring to their parts. The actress playing her is adequate, that's all.The thriller aspects of the story are well handled and there are some great, tension-filled set-pieces as a cat and mouse game ensues between the kidnapper and the police. Yet way too much time is devoted to political shenanigans which don't have enough impact on the central thrust of the plot to justify their inclusion. The ending comes out of left field and sees one character acting in a completely unbelievable way, just for shock value.Maybe the first two series of this were a lot better, or maybe it's just a case of "the king's new clothes". In any case, I spent enough time watching it, and don't really want to spend any more time thinking about it. Onto the next!
