... View MoreI am guessing that anyone that has reached this page is already a fan of Pete & Pete and is just looking for a little confirmation that we are not alone. I can only hope than Nickelodeon will release a better quality edition of this show on DVD or even Blu-Ray. I was 30 years old when this show was first tucked away on Sunday mornings and I looked forward to it at the time but now, watching it again, I realize what an landmark in pop culture it was. There are no references to anything in the real world that date the show, we can only see its age in the cavalcade of stars that had the foresight to be a part of this amazing show. I only have to wait a few more years until my Grandchildren will watch this and I hope by then a high quality version is available. Pete & Pete (and Artie) deserve it!
... View MoreThe summary was a quote from Robert Lloyd of the LA Times which he wrote about this marvelous show. When old school Nickelodeon fans talk about their best remembered and most liked shows (especially live action shows) The Adventures of Pete & Pete is sure to come up. When Nickelodeon introduced their Nick Rewind DVD collections back in 2005, The Adventures of Pete & Pete was the first show ever released. But what made Pete & Pete so great was its wittiness, its intelligent humor, its beautiful portrayal of the New Jersey state, and the 'loving' relationship between Pete and Ellen. The show was like The Wonder Years with a touch of surrealism.I discovered Pete & Pete around 1998, unfortunately it went off the air shortly after that. But in 2005, the first and second seasons were released on DVD, however the third season was scheduled to be released but was cancelled for unknown reasons. I highly recommend renting them on Netflix or better yet buying them because this show is so great you will want to relive it again and again.
... View MoreThe Adventures of Pete & Pete: Season 1 [1993] not including Michelle Trachtenberg. I was slowly trying to get a collection of the earliest works of some actors and M T is one. She appears in some episodes of season 2 and 3, but not in any of season 1. This will be her just before Harriet and those immediately after do not show an obvious typecasting the way that her role as Dawn might imply. In Richie and Gadget the blatant aspect was not enough of the tract berg. Real nice girl stuff. Apart from the Penada. For those who look to Nickelodeon Rewind Collection for boy stuff, this seems to be one of those typically rated as 5 by 5. I found the Valentine's Day Massacre episode, death of the school squid, useful as both Elle and Grave y Breath showed me that some of those including Tracht might be that 5 by 5 for me too. Otherwise I needed to rate this collection lower, but some of the others are obviously special. For me this season varied between 1 and 5 if out of 5, but now I rate it all. From the commentaries, Valentine's Day Massacre was likely to be a special, possibly the first made as it does not include The Strongest Man. The five specials as full length Pete Pete that followed on from the 60 second fillers that started the thing going, all a lead in to the eight episode 1993 series and then seasons 2 and 3. End credits say 2005, which is when the collection I have was made: Two shorts and four specials and season one. * Season 2. This two disk set has another special. It also has five shorts, giving glimpses of the main characters when the whole thing was just starting. These shorts also say something about some ideas in the series. More than that, they are fun. Big Pete continues with Elle and little Pete continues with The Strongest Man, but only for a while as what lasts with little Pete is Mona and maybe Nona. The approach to background music is of interest as it is not overdone in the few other series I know. The approach to guest stars in X=WHY stands out as distinctive. Re early Tracht, this is two or three years after Law And Order, 2-5, God Bless The Child, October 1991, but this is a speaking role. Nona is so amazing, while also pointing to the other things I have of hers. A commentary gives a pronunciation of Track Ten Burg, which helps me as Harriet had pointed me to Tract en Berg and EuroTrip had pointed me to Trash Hen Berg. Variety, but I can like Track more. A wiki points to this series as Tracht's earliest credited role, her appearances in All My Children being done parallel to this. Before that it was adverts and one uncredited role, Law And Order. This is essential Track and more optimistic than more modern series I know. It helps re musing on the differences. This is still rough tough, warrior Tracht with a doll as a figurehead strapped to the basket of her war bike, her ready to do battle for Pete. * The season 2 DVD set includes a printed advert for a season 3 collection, but at January 2013 this is still cancelled. Recently I found a downloadable copy of The Pete And Pete Reunion, 2012. This has some cast and crew and Polaris. Most is a discussion of assorted points re the series and Season 3 does get some mention, I found this to be a much more helpful discussion than in their 2011 reunion. Endless Mike Hellstrom, aka Rick Gomez, mentions his approach to watching season 3 with his family, Endless Mike can manage it okay. Surprisingly I went along with it and, consequently, I now have a You Tube copy of most of season 3, all but the last quarter of 3-06, Crisis In The Love Zone, where little Pete gets smitten by a deadly love disease and Nona, at the three quarter mark, appears to be about to give up on finding a cure, maybe tooling up for running away from the series instead. The YT versions are around 10% of DVD quality, not a substitute for the real thing, but still amazing. Season 3. Big Pete mostly ignores Elle, who occasionally notices big Pete in a big way. Little Pete starts with Nona, who then disappears half way through, leaving little Pete with Mona The Kreb Scout. The music continues to be worthwhile. I also checked for the soundtrack CD, Music From The Adventures Of Pete And Pete, and found an Amazon advert for a second hand disk at around UK£140, way above My Price. Check a day later, it was no longer there, likely sold. Except that Amazon also had mp3 downloads at close to My Price. They do not appear to be shackled by digital rights management, either. A nice 254kbps stereo collection. Amazon also had other stuff by Miracle Legion, the real id of this particular Polaris.
... View MoreI remember when this was on Nickolodeon as one minute shorts. Then a few years later, it became a full blown teevee show. I pretty much based my life's philosophy around the Petes. Which was finding amazing things within the seemingly mundane. Which the show did with a flair unmatched in history. Honestly one of the best shows to ever air on television. In fact, I like it even better now than I did when I was a teenager. And the guest stars they had were amazing. What other show could boast the likes of Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop, LL Cool J, Johnny Unitas, Frank Gifford, Adam West and many others? In fact, I'd say this show is one of the reasons why Nickolodeon was once one of the greats. One final note to the people who said negative things about this show and anybody else who hates this show: You people need to get cancer and die painfully because your opinions suck.
