Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Didn't know what to think about the show with the first 3 episodes of season 1, but after that it starts to get really good in my opinion. It's a very underrated show that deserves some attention. I'm really hoping that season 3 is in the works. It is a very original show that has very cliffhanger endings to the season that make you wonder what's going to happen next. Keeps you coming back to watch the next episode.

As another reviewer already stated, this is a tough show to rate. It definitely has some good parts, but unfortunately it has far too many weaknesses. With regard to the writing, it's all over the place. There are too many plots and subplots that literally go nowhere, and too many contrivances that just aren't believable (i.e. weak, lazy writing). But worse than that...the show is stacked to the rafters with unlikable characters. Linda is insufferable. Nick is naive and annoying. Gina is crap. Sylvia is crap. Nora is crap. Eduardo is crap. Rita is crap. Fonso is crap. Simza is crap. Josip is crap. Maggie is crap. White Tony is crap. And Charlie is a pussy. It's one thing to have a show based upon antihero protagonists. But this show is a veritable cesspool of despicable characters. There's literally no one to root for. And any time a show generates a desire to see all the characters killed off, it's a bad thing. And make no mistake about it -- Shut Eye is a bad thing.(And that doesn't even get into the clear gypsy-bashing that permeates this show.) There were enough elements here to make this into a really great show. Sadly, when all was said and done, it was really just a big boatload of crap. I would say to Shut Eye what Linda says to Charlie in the very last line of the season 2 finale: "Go eff yourself".

I just finished watching the last episode and had to create an IMDb account just to review this show. I'm appalled by the fact that it only got 7.5 rating on this site. It started off fun, but it was clear that it was headed in a more deeper direction. The acting is extremely well done, specially by Fanzo played by Angus Sampson. My god, his fashion expressions are on a whole new level of quality. Even-though I loved him in Fargo, I feel that his acting was even better in Shut eye. He fit the role perfectly from the start. Also I found the build up to the last episode was truly worth waiting for. Such a lovely little mind bender, leaving you wanting a second season. If you're into shows that involve scheming, manipulation/mind games then you'll really dig this one. Overall the show deserves a much better rating and I highly recommend it.

A poor representation of the gypsy community, For one the show is very discriminating and racist. How would African-Americans or Mexicans feel if they had a racist show directly targeted towards them? Does it mean that every black and every Mexican is a bad person? Many doctors are huge scam artists, they in fact kill people if you have the best insurance they don't care as long as they get paid for the surgery. Does that make every scamming Dr. a gypsy? No those are American people with bad intentions. Why should a gypsy be any different? Gypsies are not known to kill people, there is good and there is bad in everybody not just gypsies I wouldn't be surprised if the writers and directors are likely looking at a lawsuit on their hands for this sort of discrimination. They filmed the outside locations of psychic parlors in LA to say a bad message about their businesses and then film the rest of the show in Toronto. Absolutely shameless act from the American Directors. All of the information about gypsies in the show are truly false, there is no such thing as mafia, there is no king boss to answer to, modern day gypsies have normal hard-working jobs and do get education That is a fact. Gypsies also do have real psychic visions, otherwise gypsies would not be in the psychic business for millions of years. It is a natural gifted talent, no a gypsy can't predict the lottery, but most gypsy psychics have excellent intuition on the outcome in the future. The true scam artist is the Americans proclaiming to be a real psychic. Which they did in the premiere of shut eye and made tons of money of Americans giving palm readings trying to act like Roma. Totally inaccurate description and discrimination of gypsies, to me this show has a story line about the Armenian lifestyle. Armenians are known to be territorial about their business locations, threaten other businesses, eat Armenian donuts, they are the biggest scammers that fly completely under the radar, but I bet the writers and directors would be afraid to make a show about Armenians because most lawyers are Armenians. they decide let's make a false story line about gypsy communities.
