Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

The writing for Magic City is some of the best you will find on television of any era, and the actors do justice to the material. The main character Ike is layered, complex, and nuanced in a way that allows you to connect to both his inner and outer self. Rarely has an uncontrived character been this complex on television, even the legendary Tony Soprano. Jeffrey Dean Morgan gives the performance of his life. There is beauty and ugliness everywhere, and the show delves into the duality of all. The locations, the people, the politics and the struggles are all given their time center stage. Not knowing Miami at the time I can't speak to the authenticity of the sets, but it feels right enough to forgive any minor sins.It never feels rushed until midway through the second season when they must have been told there wouldn't be a third, and even then the obviously sped up plot and denouement are satisfying and artfully crafted.Treat Magic City like a fine wine of which only a few bottles remain. Savour every drop as it will stay in your memory long after the glass is empty.

I wish the current owners of the Fontainebleau (The Soffer's aka Turnberry Realty) would have let this show state the real name of this hotel, not this Miramar Playa hooey. Everything about the lobby, golden staircase to nowhere and the exterior curved shape, and swiss cheese holes in the walls, scream Morris Lapidus MiMo design right from the 'bleau. Ike Evans character even mentions walking guests to the Eden Roc hotel, which is next door to the FB. This show really hit's home to the reality of what it's like to work at this type of hotel. I especially liked the episodes with James Caan. I met him at the Fontainebleau hotel at Don Soffer's wedding, and he brings such an authenticity to the role on the show.

This show is one of the best shows i've ever seen, right now i only watch 2 shows dexter and this one. I started watching it because of the lead actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan i've always loved his acting, so i started watching it and it was very easy to get obsessed with it. Now I don't understand how 7.1 on IMDb almost 5/5 in almost all episodes of starz is low rated!! How can they cancel this show so fast? a lot of people like me love this show and its one of the best shows out. Canceling it its a really bad mistake they are making, they should try changing the schedule or something not canceling it! I'm really disappointed with that WRONG decision STARZ made. Please starz change your minds! I'm sure you are going to lose a lot of viewers if you do it.

As I mentioned, I love the story as well as the characters but the writers need to take better care with the details. One thing I really admire about the Mad Men team over at AMC is that the show-runner, Matthew Wiener, is seriously obsessive about making sure all the details are correct. They even go as far as making sure something seemingly minor like the mention of a restaurant is consistent with the time being represented by that particular place in the story arc. As an example of just this type of gaff - season 1 episode 8 - the scene where Klien (DA) is talking with Ike in jail. Ike confronts Klein as to coerced testimony, fabricated evidence, etc. to which Klein responds "I've sent men to the gas chamber for less". Well the issue is this - up until 1998, electrocution was the only method used in FL when the voters approved the use of lethal injections. And besides, FL has never used the gas chamber because for many decades, the enlightened people of FL simply loved "Old Sparky" - their affectionate nickname for the electric chair. There are a few others here and there and while none of these is egregious or damaging to the storyline, these little details do add a nice fine polish to the production as whole. I rate the show a 9 but if they were to fix these peccadilloes, I place this at a 10 no problem.
