Too much of everything
... View MoreThis movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
... View MoreThis is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
... View MoreThe film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
... View MoreI watched this at home on DVD from our public library. My wife watched 15 minutes and left, not her type of entertainment."Last Tango in Halifax" is apparently a British TV series that ran for several years. It features a man and woman in their 70s who, after each of their spouses died, reunited after 60 or so years. What I found was the "holiday special" and later realized it is season 4, episodes 1 and 2, about 55 minutes each, the only episodes of season 4.I have always been fond of stories featuring a cross section of average British characters, as this one does. While much of the story focuses on relationship problems some of the adult children are having, the most charming story is about the local theater production and the 70-somethings scrambling to find the right characters and putting on the show.Overall nothing very memorable, and it surely would help to already be familiar with the whole series, but I enjoyed it as a way to pass time until bedtime.
... View MoreI like this show so far. (I'm at Season 3 Episode 3.) Good characters, some interesting plot lines. Occasionally the people seem almost too stupid to be believable - sharing secrets, impulsive sex. John is such a loser it's humorous. Celia can be such a bitch, even if she is an old lady. Gillian, I think, is homely so it's hard to understand why she seems so attractive to various men - as well as having an unattractive personality. If you want a show that is more about relationships and people living their lives, this is a good one.
... View MoreI've never seen a program with such frequent and sudden plot changes! The acting is most excellent however, I must say! Even in the very first episode, the actors seemed they had been playing the roles for years almost. Am I the only one who notices the sudden plot developments? I really would prefer to be able to savor the characters more if it slowed down just a few kilometers per hour. The players are most excellent and, even at the break-neck speed the plots are going, the characters are very believable, even likable. I suppose the pace has been set and will be maintained in this series. The one obvious theme in all this is that no one is to be trusted with any new information for more than five minutes. It does seem to be driving the plot along, however. I will keep watching this series as long as it is offered. The writers will be constantly challenged to keep this pace I do believe.
... View MoreToo self - consciously "Yorkshire" by half,"Last Tango in Halifax" boasts plots so clichéd that soap writers would hesitate to churn them out(late onset homosexuality, previously unknown offspring, inter - racial sex(by gum that's a hot one,Ma)and characters over - familiar to anyone who has watched TV over the last 30 years. Miss Nicola Walker and Miss Sara Lancashire are the only cast members who look remotely comfortable,Miss Walker in her bodywarmer and wellies and Miss Lancashire in her Head Teacher's suit. Sir Derek Jacobi is badly miscast as a bluff/sensitive Yorkshireman with metropolitan values(not many of those to the pound round Halifax,I'd wager). He and Miss Anne Reed as his wife play the parents of the two aforementioned ladies who marry in their 70s not entirely to their children's liking. It has high production values, big names, and the BBC has thrown a lot of money at it to increase it's profile but it remains an afternoon soap in an expensive dress I'm afraid. If you've come to Miss Wainwright's work via the supreme "Happy Valley" you may well be disappointed.
