As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

Hello who the hell let this happen!Wow.There are crap TV shows and then there's Hello Ladies. The lead character is a pompous, self-centred douchebag! (Please note the effort that went in to using not all 'F' words!). I'm not a big fan of Stephen Merchant but I don't hate everything he does, but this might have to be his worst. No mention worthy characters, no laughs but plenty of cringe worthy moments and awkwardness!I would rather have my eyes stapled closed than watch another season of this!

Having tried getting into this series across 3 different episodes I just don't get why this series has gotten so high a rating. The main character is totally unlike-able, self absorbed and has no redeeming qualities. I don't get why I should want to watch him be an A-hole to most everyone he meets. Why this guy has any friends at all and doesn't get punched in his face on a regular basis makes the show all the more unbelievable.I had to switch away from the program several times because I found it unbearable. No wonder it got canceled.Avoid at all cost.

I've read a lot of reviews for this show and none of them were good. Because of that I hesitated to watch it, I thought that it is really bad. Then a few days ago I decided to give it a go. I wasn't expecting much and the show exceeded my expectations big time. A lot of people say that Stuart is not likable, that he has no redeeming qualities, that he's a shallow jerk etc. I don't agree. He came off as a boy in a grown man's body, insecure computer geek with the feeling of entitlement, but it was obvious that his attitude stems from inner insecurities. A lot of sitcom characters are unlikeable (remember Seinfeld) and shallow. I never liked the show "How I met your mother", I've only seen a few episodes and that Barney character was really getting on my nerves but people liked him a lot and d-bags quoted him on Facebook. From my point of view, he was much more unlikeable than Stuart. In the end, Stuart's womanizing aspirations got him nowhere and he realized that his attitude was wrong. Not many characters go through such development in the span of eight episodes. The show has a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, I loved the episode about Stuart and the workers, their night out was really funny. Merchant is sweet, even when his character acts juvenile. I've also seen the movie and I absolutely loved the "dirty" talk in bed. Jessica is a great character and although some of her scenes reminded me of Extras, she had her depth and wasn't a cardboard cutout from Merchant's and Ricky's previous works (sadly, I can't say the same for characters from "Life's too short"). Kives was also excellent and I liked the fact that a person with disability was portrayed in such a positive way. Wade was a bit sugary for my taste, but he had his good moments. In the past I never really knew what to think of Merchant, he was in Ricky's shadow for too long. Now I see what his influences were in their previous collaborations. I was indifferent to him before, and after seeing this show, I became a huge fan. Hopefully he'll continue the good work.

I never expected that Stephen Merchant was going to be that good an actor! I've always enjoyed the Stephen Merchant, Ricky Gervias, and Karl Pilkington partnership, yet of the three, the spot light was always on Karl and Ricky. Through watching the Ricky Gervias Show, I came to love the three of them. Ricky the bold, immature yet eerily sophisticated man, Karl the simple bloke who liked to question every thing, and finally Stephen, Ricky's right hand man. There was never much depth into Stephens character. I (being the curious person that I am) couldn't wait to see Stephen make his own show (away from the stand up comedy genre). At the beginning I was a bit skeptical, but then I saw how well Stephen Merchant handled his character. Pritchet is a selfish, arrogant and socially awkward middle aged man who always tries too hard; basically one of the worst people you can ever meet, however somewhere along the series you begin to feel sympathy for him, you see beyond the selfish douche-bag wannabe persona, you see a struggling man who has ambition. You feel sorry for him, but you know he deserves it. You admire him, you loath him. You think you are better than him, and because of that he inspires you. He is in many ways an anti-hero.
