Did you people see the same film I saw?
... View Morewhat a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
... View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
... View MoreThe film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
... View MoreI just discovered this cartoon again on You Tube (the Amazing Stories 1/2 hour version). I remember laughing so hard at this when I was 14 years old. I went to school the next day and discussed it with my friend who had watched it...we got in trouble in library for being too loud. We couldn't stop laughing about the "blaming it on the dog" part. Back then, fart jokes on TV were hard to come by...so this cartoon was a huge hit. I have always remembered The Family Dog as being one of the funniest cartoons I have ever seen. I searched for it again and amazingly found it! It did get some smiles out of me still, especially the Dad's flared nostrils and blaming it on the dog...about 20 some years later...still pretty funny, but not nearly as much. Maybe I'm jaded now with all the fart humor so readily available :) I think anyone (especially dog owners) can appreciate this cartoon. It was definitely ahead of it's time!
... View MoreThis is a short, 30 minute film about a family dog. I don't think it should be dissected and analyzed - otherwise, you'll totally miss the fun and laughs it was intended for. If you ignore the big names associated with this film like Stephen Spielberg, and just watch it when you're in the mood for something silly, which most of us do when watching cartoons/animation anyway, you will enjoy this film as much as I did. I grew up with small dogs in my household all my life, and can identify with the humor. There were many places of subtle humor as well, which I enjoyed very much. I consider myself a movie buff (with over 300 movies in my collection) and some you just can't take too seriously in order to enjoy. If you do, you may miss out on the little films like this to make you laugh.
... View MoreI admit when I say this is the greatest animal cartoon ever, I pretty much put down Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, and other animal cartoons but I do admit I was watching this Family Dog show every time it came on when I was a kid. I still remember the one episode when the dog's family went out for the night and burgulars came in and stole from the house. The dog didn't really have anyone in the house love him as a pet, except for maybe the sister or the mom I believe. They should try and bring back this show and see how it appeals to the millenium audience. If they do bring it back I would get it on tape because it may never get another chance.
... View MoreF.D. is funny. Compare Family Dog to Family Guy. F.D. has less swearing. All I heard F.D. say is "Oh my god"!F.G is swearing galore! But F.G is fuunny, too! When I saw the short "Family Dog" on "Amazing Stories", I couldn't stop laughing!!!!!!!!! I only saw the TV show 3 times! It's a good family show. Yeah, The animation sucks, but it's a good show, just like "south park". It's just read the title.
