The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

I'm not much into romance or mecha, but I don't have anything against those genres either and I read such great reviews for this series that I decided to not pass the opportunity in watching this.I unfortunately let the fans get to me. Whether you liked this show or not, a lot of reviewers will point out that the first half is fairly slow, I could deal with that, believe it or not, I thought the first half of the show was better (not a popular opinion, and by better I mean OK at best). As the series goes on to the second half, the plot get's more interesting, and also, makes less and less sense. This is probably the show's biggest problem. Things such as strange fish-like monsters summoned (somehow?) out of no where killing random people, some strange purple goo that hurts people, an old guy who has something implanted in his chest and is able to control the mechs known as LFOs, and more unexplained things that will easily infuriate viewers. The main cast of characters are in a group known as the Gekkostate, a lot of the times, you won't really know what the characters are doing because it is so poorly explained. Most of the characters aren't that good, some aren't so bad. The main character Renton can get annoying with all his whining, but he isn't all that bad seeing that he has some likable attributes. Talho and Holland were actually decent characters as the series went on. Eureka on the other hand has hardly any personality at all (typical Rei clone), half of her lines are comprised of "Oh, Renton" or "Nirvash, please!", or her just crying and then staring without emotion. The kids that Eureka takes care of are extremely annoying. The main antagonist Dewey Novak' motives aren't really that clear and what happens to him at the end isn't explained. Almost all the other characters serve no purpose other than just being there. Take Dominic and Anemone, they only exist to fill time and to add another couple to the story. I hear a lot of people say that complaints like this just means "you didn't get the message man". Yes, there were themes of love and family, but it was hard to care seeing that I head a love-hate feeling towards Renton, while Eureka was very boring. The only characters I cared about were Holland and Talho and that was pretty much it. I ended up skipping a majority of the second half of the show just to watch the end. That ending... was so terribly cheesy, I won't say anything to avoid spoilers but it was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen in my life. On the other hand I have no complaints about animation, it was very well done and it was hard not to like, the voice acting wasn't bad either (except Eureka who got annoying sometimes). I'm not saying this is one of the worst anime, but I certainly wouldn't call it a good one. If you enjoyed this series, that's fine, but I really can't see how.

I've watched many, many anime series and I've realized that I've grown quite picky over what I watch. Sometimes I watch an anime and find myself asking, "Why do I even bother watching this?" Then on a fateful day, I ran out of things to watch so I decided to pick out a new series to devote some time to. I chose... Eureka Seven. I never regretted that decision, and I never will. Now, at first I didn't really know exactly why I chose Eureka Seven. First of all, I'm not a big romance fan. I'm only semi-interested in dramas. I'm pretty neutral about mech-themed anime. And lastly, most of the 'shounen' anime I've watched weren't very memorable (and some way too overrated). Still, I downloaded the first five episodes and began watching the series. The first two or three episodes don't explain the story right away. However, there was just enough action, humor, etc. to grab some of my attention. The male protagonist, Renton, is a typical teen, complaining about his life. At the same time, the introduction of the female lead, the titular character, Eureka, added another dimension right away. For me, who does research before watching an anime, once I saw Eureka, I knew the series was going to be good. Eureka, a quite, distant, indifferent, yet charming and beautiful... and Renton, a loud, whiny, yet romantic guy are supposed to be compatible? This I had to see. Then again, I had to go through the first twenty or so episodes before there was really romance. Before that, it was mostly action, random humor, and most importantly (I'm going to stress this), character development. The whole point of this anime is not the romance. Not the fancy mechs, the elaborate fight scenes, or the comedic aspects. The characters, who they are, how they start out, and how they end up, are the focal points of the anime.Character development does not stop at episodes twenty-ish, though. It goes on all the way to the final episodes, at a whopping fifty. But don't misunderstand, by the time I passed the halfway point, I was one hundred percent hooked. The only thing on my mind during the week I was watching this anime was not sleep, not food, not friends, not family, but amazingly, Eureka Seven. After each episode, I could not stop for a bathroom break... I had to continue. It was that good. Each character, especially Renton and Eureka, slowly become genuine, as in fit for reality. Eventually, I felt like I really know these characters. Power of the anime? I really believe so. As I said before, I never was a romance fan. But I made an exception for this anime. Throughout the series, I could not help but smile at the bond between Renton and Eureka. At times, I really even wanted to shed tears. I admit it. Yes. I wanted to break down and cry. And this happened throughout the series at more than one, two, or three occasions.Characters. Plot. Animation. Music. And more. All of these aspects form this masterpiece. If there was a greater ranking than "masterpiece," then by all means, rank Eureka Seven even higher. Calling this anime wonderful is an understatement. Calling this anime genius is an understatement. Right now, the only word I can think of is "masterpiece." After watching this series for the third full time (Yes, third time, as in three times), I wanted to watch the entire series, from episode one through fifty... yet again. Truly amazing. It is unfortunate that only a percentage of people know about this anime. Hopefully in the near future, there will be more acclaim globally. As of now, Eureka Seven is my most favorite anime. No, my most favorite anything-that-I-have-ever-watched.I have four words: Please Watch This Anime.

Unlike most of the anime whose protagonist is the most brilliant pilot or the most powerful wizard, Renton Thurston is simply a normal kid who lives with his grandfather and who gets bad marks in school. One of the best thing of Eureka Seven is, you got to see the growth of the protagonist. After living and fighting with the members of the Gekkostate, he becomes more mature (And more handsome...maybe). All the protagonists in this anime are basically all dynamic characters. You could see that they slowly change their perspectives toward the world and life as the show progresses. The relationship between Renton and Eureka is also extremely important to the show. They meet each other, they get to know each other, and they finally love each other. The steps are very beautiful and also very subtle. Especially when Renton left Gekkostate(Episode 21...maybe), Eureka becomes astonished and sad, even though she was serious injured, she still struggled to the Nirvash and begged him to help her (I actually cried for that part).Considering that I am not so good at writing, let me just put it this way: if you are a anime lover and unfortunately don't get a change to watch this, it can be one of the biggest regrets you have ever made.

Eureka Seven is the best anime show i have ever seen in my entire life. It's a great story told about a young boy named Renton and a girl named Eureka who fall in love and so on. But the main reason I'm even writing this comment is that I want to get the word about eureka seven out so that more people can enjoy the great times I had while watching this anime show. I also want this show to do as good as possible because I want them to release a lot more eureka seven merchandise into the United States because there isn't a lot and what there is is really hard to find. I also want to know if anyone can tell me if they are planning on releasing eureka seven vol. 2 the new vision game for the playstation 2 into the United States. If anyone has this information or can find out for me please post it on this site in a comment and I will read it thanks again and enjoy Eureka Seven!
