Truly Dreadful Film

good back-story, and good acting

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

I watched the entire series on Amazon Prime, and then I started over at the beginning to see what I had "missed." The second series was the "UK" version. There were scenes I saw for the first time, the second go-round. In the USA version, some of the footmen are snickering as the opera singer is performing. That was taken out of the UK version. Also, I'm in the last series, 2016, and apparently the scene with the Lord puking blood at table has been omitted. Hmmm. . . . .

I did appreciate the two first seasons as the actors and the scenes are perfect but I lost interest in the story after that. To be seen out of curiosity.

I wouldn't want to ruin anything for anybody looking to pick this up, but If you like period pieces, British history, great acting, likable characters….if you just like good TV period then watch this show. I truly can't say enough good things about Downton Abbey. From beginning to end, I promise you you'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll be happy you watched this wonderful show.

Well this would not typify what I like to watch. We started watching it together and she loves it. I guess I like it too, on season 4 or 5 now. I would highly recommend it solely as a period piece but also the drama is quite something.I guess it is fascinating how a the servant population interacts with the wealthy. The picking order of the servants, the levels of who's in charge, etc are also fascinating. Throw in the drama and relationships of the staff and the family, sometimes crossing over, and you have a show that is very easy to watch. I think that there is something to be said for watching long term shows what with the sameness of it, recognition, a feeling of welcome back each time you watch. I honestly think that aspect is the addicting part. Very strong with long running shows like Cheers. Downton has that same 'welcome back' draw each show you watch.
