Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

I have just watched almost the whole series over a 1 week period. After about 4 episodes I knew it wouldn't get to a second series and almost stopped watching the rest. It suffers from what I call the Stephen King Syndrome. Very little of real substance told over too long a period and huge amounts of information about what the subject had for breakfast months ago. Up to about episode 13 now and will watch till the end only because of the time already invested. In other shows these 13 episodes could have been told in about 4 episodes. I do admit that when I started watching I wasn't really aware that it was a prequel to BSG hence a lot of it made no sense. For any show to last several series it has to stand alone and this didn't. I do think that the actors aren't too bad but the story is abysmal. Too much "fracking". Too much violence that appeared to be added for the sake of it. And a society at this level should be well aware of the health hazard that smoking is.And what a society. At episode 13 I am having a hard time thinking (now that I know BSG is to follow) that anybody except the Cylons should win.

Caprica is an entertaining and informative prequel to the hugely entertaining Battlestar Galactica series, answering many outstanding questions such as how the Cylons came to be, the birth of artificial life, why the Cylon leaders differ from other Cylons and the origins of the one true god faith amongst other things. This series is hugely enthralling with excellent character portrayals, acting and story writing. Poor CGI effects, especially in animating the Cylon robots, and the hurried sense attained from the final 5 episodes are the main two areas that let down this otherwise great series, especially since we have come to expect much more from the Battlestar Galactica franchise on both fronts. A lower budget is evident whilst rushing to wrap things up can be explained by the series being cut early after only 1 season to fans dismay. There was so much more that could've been done here and so many avenues to explore. Overall I was thoroughly entertained by this series and did not want it to end. There were a few problems buy mostly positives especially in conceptual story writing that seamlessly fits alongside the Battlestar story.

I'm a big fan of sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal, and as a fan of both BSG and Buffy (a couple writers from Buffy worked on Caprica), I'd been looking forward to watching Caprica eventually. Finally got a chance for a TV show marathon this past weekend. As I expected based on BSG standards, the acting is absolutely fantastic. And the whole premise is great: SO, so much to play with about what makes someone real, about what we will (and won't) do for those we love, and of course the Cylon backstory. I also don't have other reviewers' objections about particular aspects being stronger or weaker than others: I liked the adult plot lines and the teenagers' ones, the V-world and the real world; I thought the religion angle was really interesting and compelling (& love how "monotheism" enables them to gesture toward zealotry without pointing the finger at "crazies over *there*.")But then I got up to the episode "Blowback" and realized that I'd started forwarding through scenes (and I don't usually do that) and just dreading more characters dying--especially significant characters dying, or insignificant characters dying in especially brutal ways (or, I suppose, just being brutalized and not necessarily killed).I'll admit that I'm ridiculously squeamish about violence, but it's not at all that Caprica is just "too violent." But while watching Caprica it was as if those guiding the show thought that they didn't have enough drama to work with, so they compensated by using "violence porn"--subplots whose sole purpose seemed to be creating suspense via the threat of terrible things happening to people. Which then means they also spend that time NOT developing the main plot or characters that are so intriguing. And unlike BSG, where you get flawed characters who can be really flawed and violent AND really heroic (sometimes at the same time), for me there wasn't enough good stuff to balance out the bad in Caprica. BSG is certainly grim, but the grimness & sense of dread is appropriate given the situation. In Caprica, the balance is off, and I realized that I was increasingly willing to forward through potentially violent moments even if I missed major plot points in doing so ... to the point where I finally realized that I should just "forward through" the whole rest of the series and miss the rest of the plot entirely--a.k.a., stop watching it.

Although this was a tremendous work, I only gave it 9 stars due to some of the incongruities with Battlestar Galactica, which I consider to be the greatest collection of stories produced in a television series to date. I do not write any spoilers, but I do write the following: They produced a tremendous program here. The writing is top-notch, with superior stories involving human social dynamics. These stories expose where we may be heading with technology, especially with where we could be headed with gaming and retention of our identities. Interestingly, I am presently writing a novel that contains similar information, though I view much of what they present as negative as very positive. This is a must see for any Battlestar Galactica fans, but is altogether unique, and could be enjoyed by anyone that enjoys drama, realistic Science Fiction, some action/adventure, comic books, etc. Pretty much anyone should enjoy this program. Stereotypical women would also enjoy watching this, as it includes chic-flick elements, and is presented in a very soap-opera fashion, but not to the point of being disturbing to macho-men. The most major incongruity with Battlestar Galactica is that the views of monotheism are vastly different. But, as this occurred 50 years earlier, some views may have changed. Also, Admiral Adama seems to be shaped much differently than would be believable. I hope you enjoy this great program as much as I did.
