It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

I'm a big fan of historic TV shows and movies. This said, about "Bomb Girls", at first, this show was a more or less true depiction of WWII, the more it moves forward, and the more it becomes feminist propaganda material, and the less truthful it gets. I mean, all topics are illustrated from a "women are always victims" point of view, which mostly results in biased and false recollection of events. Name them; all feminist topics are talked about sex before marriage in the 1940, job discrimination, abortion, and so on... If I wanted an untruthful lecture on how women were in the 1940s, there are plenty websites for that; I don't need to ruin an evening watching a show, refraining myself to shout every now and then: "Wait, this is no true, this law was passed in the late 1950s" or "Wait, that's bogus..." or such...We already have enough BS in Canadian TV dramas...

This could have been a great war time program. But the script and story are terrible. I kept hoping it would get better and finally gave up during the second season because it was so stupid. Gladys, one of the main characters, is phony, fake and full of herself. Silly character who attempts to seem brave. The matron of the bomb girls group had a one-night fling with a hunky Italian and got pregnant. Seriously bad and completely unbelievable. Then there's the lesbian who falls in love with a young girl who ran away from her abusive priest father. Truly bad. The best story line is a young woman who was injured on the bomb line and lost half her scalp. She recovered from the gruesome injury and rebuilt her life.Don't bother with this program. It's badly written and poorly acted. Not the fault of the actors, but hey -- when it's not on the page, it's not on the stage.

Bomb Girls has the best scripts, direction, and cast of any Canadian TV show I've seen. Until I heard them mention cities in Canada I assumed it was from an American network. (and yes, most Canadian TV has poor production quality on all fronts)The characters are all so unique and intriguing (somewhat due to the place and time of the story) that each of their sub-plots just suck you right in. The story covers many topics I didn't know about the home-front in WWII.Each episode kept me hanging and when it was canceled I, along with many others, were outraged! They came back with a bang (or so I hear) by releasing a TV movie, allowing for some closure to the story. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!

I picked this up, thinking it was another British production in the vein of Foyle's war, which I thought was excellent. Initially, I was quite confused and couldn't understand the lack of accents. Of course, I quickly clued in that it was a Canadian show.It feels pretty authentic and has lots of great details. The stories are quite compelling and the acting top notch. Cinematography is good too, and the photography looks movie quality to me and doesn't have the "cheap" look of so many Canadian productions. On the downside, there is just a little too little exterior photography. Obviously this would be expensive, but the show suffers for it and feels a little "sitcom-ish" and confined in the way it tends to cut from interior to interior with very little outdoor footage, especially city scenes. I understand why, but still miss them. Maybe Season 2 will have a bigger budget. My only other (minor) complaint is that it tries a bit too hard for the drama. It seems that every character has some secret burden, so there is no "everywoman" for the audience to identify with among the main few roles. Instead of seeing how the war and times affected most people, we're seeing what it was like for closeted homosexuals, the victims of evangelicals and oppressed socialites. I suppose the closest to an everyday person is the girl who loses her husband, but she's more supporting cast than lead. Anyway, minor issue.Overall, a good show, one that Canadians should be proud of.
