I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Despite the past work from D.C. Comics this show is a beautiful marriage between D.C and CW. It captures the realms of black fatherhood, the struggles of the black community, sexuality, feminism, and so much more. It also manages to do a stellar job at depicting a black superhero. I believe most of these negative reviews are done by white people who don't like seeing black people be truthful whether it be in art or in reality. If this isn't the show for you so be it but to give this show anything below a 3 star rating is obsurd and distasteful. I enjoy this show more than Luke Cage and I'm no comic connoisseur but I know what I like and I definitely like black lightning. The actors do a great job of potraying the characters and the writing is good. If your wondering about the show please watch and don't let negative, racist people mislead you. I was once that person that passed on this show numerous times but now I'm glad I finally am in the know about this great piece of art.

Listen to yourself and not the person next to you, they might think faces of death is a great documentary.

When compared to other popular DC shows produced by CW such as Supergirl or The Flash, it's better in two aspects: writing and acting. The writing of this show is extremely well done. It's not repetitive, avoids clichés seen in most dramas, and it properly develops likeable characters with clear motivations behind their actions. The story is simple, yet entertaining. It's nice to see a superhero show focusing more on "local heroing" in contrast to the "fate of the world"-styled stories commonly seen. This smaller setting allows for the accurate portrayal of actual real-world issues, such as corruption and gang violence, although they may be slightly hyperbolic. Most other CW shows are just glorified soap operas with Superhero themes. However, the drama in Black Lightning actually adds a layer of complexity to the show, adequately demonstrating the internal conflict of each of the characters. None of the characters are one dimensional, and it makes them relatable and likeable. However, not only are they well-weitten, they are also brought to life by the talented cast. To say the acting is bad in this show would be a blatant lie. Of course they're not Emmy Award Winning performances, but they're also definitely not the wooden, one-dimensional, and corny performances seen in Supergirl and the Flash.

So I finished watching Season 1 right now. I wanted to do that to be able to write not only about 2-3 episodes, but the whole series. And BOY this may have been one of the worst series I´ve ever watched. It yells "cliché" at every corner..1) The story: Might be ok even. City is overrun by drug experiment. Ex-Superhero comes out of hiding to do something against it. 2) The super villains: Boy. These make the series really bad. They are all like Dr. No, sitting in their chairs and complaining about how much they hate Black Lightning and how they are going to destroy him but noone even comes close. Nonetheless the end of the series shows us the Albino who again does evil things sitting in his chair, speaking of how he will destroy Black Lightning once and for all 3) Regular Villains: We have 2:Syonide and whatever Khalil calls himself. Theres so many bad scenes with both. really: whenever they appear on the scene, it gets more and more cringeworthy. The one is the "pistol"-girl, super quick with her never-to-be-reloaded guns who, in EVERY scene, needs to show how merciless she is and the other is the formerly disabled guy who got a new spine and poison-darts that kill on impact (cool poison!). And with his new equipment he also learned to be the best killer guy ever, killing 15 agents without getting a scratch. How long did they train him? Where again did they say he got his super moves? 4) The heroes: Ok, Black Lightning first. he has a bullet-proof suit and wears some kind of "mask" that only cover his eyes. He has the same statue and recognizable beard that this community pillar guy has... hmmm. Regardless, noone ever targets his head. His one daughter has the ability to be super strong and bullet proof when she inhales. Yet, we frequently see battle scenes where she already IS bulletproof but still inhales to make a shock wave. How long can she hold her breath? And again: where did she learn to fight? The other daughter is long time not aware of her powers, but when she becomes aware, she learns to control them super fast and can tie the bad guy in the last episode up even with her lightning cords. There´s so much more wrong with this series (like the music... this rap theme is so not good), the fight scene choreography and much more. How on earth can they produce something like this and get away with it? Why does THIS get a season 2 when Firefly doesnt?
