The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

As I promised on my review for Charlotte I am going to check out Angel Beats. Since I have now completed it here is my review. To give a quick summary: Angel Beats is about a young student by the name of Yuzuru who dies, has no memory of his death, and is recruited by Yuri to join battlefront to stop Angel. But, Angel is not a bad.Just be vary that there are two OVA's to this anime. The first one happens in between Episode 9 and 10 and the second one happens between episode 2 and 3. If you go on YouTube there will be an alternative ending available to watch. My advice if an anime is 100% never watch an OVA before the ending otherwise it ruins the flow. In terms of voice acting it was good, to be honest other then Brittany Kowbolisky and Greg Ayers I had no idea who any of the other voice actors were.Episode 3,10,12 and 13 were the most saddest episodes of the series and my favourite episodes alongside the second episode (where battlefront sneak into underground), episode 5 (when battlefront attempt to make Kanada fail her exams), episode 6 (when we learn a bit about Ayato's past) I was very surprised on how he massively changed from a dark ruthless bully to a kind hearted person and the episodes where we actually learn about Yuzuru.Like with every show there will be bad episode and when comes to Angel Beats the worst episodes are episode 4 because at the time I found Yu a very annoying character who screamed a lot: because of her the episode got ruined. The two OVAs because in the first one the whole plot was the characters getting over excited over anything just make Angel run away to sneak out her plans and on top of that Yuri was just being a b*tch to her friends and bullying them at end of the by restricting them from eating for a whole week while she is drinking a water bottle with her friends on the flour, the whole episode was an utterly joyless experience from beginning to end especially for fans who had watched the ending before this. I don't want to talk about the second OVA.In terms of art style and animation it was good. However every female character looked a bit like a carbon copy of Yuri but with different heights, hair style and visual detail. My final words: If you enjoyed Charlotte you will enjoy this.

So I came on here because everyone thought this was one of the saddest anime to easily cry at but for me, I wasn't crying at the 13th episode where they all were saying goodbye to each other. I mean, i just didn't feel emotional with it because it just didn't have that tragedic way of them all dying (I know I'm very dark) and like its pretty much a very positive thing that they are moving on from each other to concentrate on their own lives. As well, they graduated in a awkward ceremony so that does also bring positivity.Another thing I want to point out, I thought the series needed to be either shorter with less then 26 episodes or be a movie, I just felt really bored at the 5th episode and made my way to the final episode. It was just the story repeated what we know from the first episode. That's just my opinon.Good anime but it needed a few tweaks in my personal opinion.....

Before I begin I must clarify something: I am not very familiar with anime. I've watched the entirety of Death Note, Angel Beats, and am in the middle of Sword Art Online. So I'm reviewing this show in terms of its quality, not how it compares or conforms to other anime.Word of advice, ignore all the complaints about this show, because when there's so much about a show to hate and so much that shouldn't work, and people everywhere still love it anyways, there's definitely something special about it. Here's a quick sypnosis. A guy wakes up on a school campus, which he soon discovers is something like a purgatory. He eventually joins a resistance formed by a dozen or so other fellow "students" with the goal of resisting the mysterious Angel. Things get even crazier from there.Couple this mind-blowing concept with some unforgettable characters, crazy amounts of action, lots of Japanese rock music, crazy gore, buckets of blood, cute comedy, seriously depressing backstories, and the most detailed cartoon guns I've ever seen and you get something that's unforgettable. The ending is breathtaking, too.Now here's what everyone complains about: the pacing is bad and it's too short. No thirteen episode show should be able to bounce back and forth continuously between these different styles and genres continuously like this one does. Yet it does. And it works. Because when you have so much awesomeness going around, you barely notice until you're done crying over the last episode... for the third time. As for other complaints made about the series, most of those don't hold much water in my opinion. There's really nothing else working against the series besides its length. So if you haven't watched much anime this is worth watching. If you're very familiar with anime and have a higher standard, I still recommend you give this a go. It's only thirteen episodes and I'm sure you'll find something you'll like. Why won't I give the series a perfect ten. Simply because no matter how much the flaws never hindered my enjoyment, they still mean the show isn't perfect. That and the baseball episode which I really just didn't like cause it nearly turned me away from the series. It's probably not so bad now, but at the time there's was just something about it that I didn't like.Last word of advice: the episodes incrementally get better, so don't worry if you're having second thoughts before the midpoint. Or on the baseball episode :)

After my friends and I got out of our Full Metal Alchemist and Fruits Basket obsessions, we needed a new anime show to watch. So while I was on Netflix searching the anime section, I came across a show called Angel Beats!. I turned it on, thinking it looked okay, and was immediately sucked in. The story had lovable characters and a good storyline and it was perfect. After watching the first three episodes, I noticed that there was only 13 episodes in the entire series! I thought, 'This sure isn't long enough to finish this story!' But continued to watch anyway. And after the 9th episode, the story almost completely changed and I was left confused. They got it back together in time for the final episode, but I still think that the story ended too quickly. It was a perfect ending though, if you're willing to stick through the entire episode. And don't forget your tissue box, it'll come in handy through the whole series! And I'm normally really tough and don't cry easy, but there were tears rushing down my face the entire last episode, especially the final sequence before the credits. I still think that I could have lasted longer, like Full Metal Alchemist or had a fuller and more clear storyline like Fruits Basket, but it was good in its own way.
