What makes it different from others?

I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.

Nonsense, meaningless and a waste of time. : "American Gods" is cringe-worthy, cliche-ridden faux surrealism. It's just an awful show. Not even deliciously horrible. Just an exhibition of bad taste.

I find it sometimes hard to get my husband to watch the stuff I like - managed to persuade him to give this a try and he loved it! I'm a little bowled over to be honest but I will take it as a massive win! I read the book many years ago so memory was a little vague - but I managed to pick it up as the series went on. I found it visually stunning, the soundtrack is amazing but I cant belive that I have to wait till 2019 for the next series.

This show is just phenomenal. They've done a brilliant job bringing Neil Gaiman's best, most challenging novel to the screen. The characters match up superbly with how I personally visualized them, and the effects and sets keep your eyes glued to the screen.I've seen IMDB users complain about sex and violence. Perhaps a sophisticated fantasy novel that's been adapted to premium cable just isn't for them. This show isn't for fans of mindless entertainment. It challenges you. I you want something simple minded you can check your e-mail too, there's plenty of those shows.Watch this, you won't regret it.

I have only watched the first episode and will need to build up to watching any more.It couldn't make up its mind whether or not is was supposed to be funny. The first scene with the Viking getting shot with hundreds of arrows suggested I was in for a slapstick-fest but then they must have changed directors.But the worst part was the complete lack of silence. Every second was filled with "mood music". It was as if they were worried that if they left a few milli-seconds of silence I might get bored and walk away. In the end I shouted at the screen "for God sake be quiet for a few moments".And you could easily have knocked 15 minutes off the running time.
