    Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

Look...is this ground breaking...maybe not. Is this worthy of critical acclaim....not sure. What I do know is that I have been thoroughly entertained by this show. I dont know who these pompous "critics" are...but if you had ever been in a court room or talked with a police man....rarely will career ever produce 3 stories that could comprise 1 episode...let alone an entire series. This is fiction people....get over the believably factor and just enjoy the ride. I have only watched 6 episodes so far and I have been immensely entertained. Action...check...drama...check...tension...check...engaging story...check. I almost didnt watch this simply because I thought after reading the plot that it wouldnt be that interesting...I was wrong. If you have reservations based on the reviews you are reading...take an hour out of your day and watch the first episode. If you dont like it what have you lost? And for the people that are trying to be the next Ebert...get a life.

I found myself getting very annoyed with this show. This woman has just returned up from being kidnapped, tortured, and presumed murdered for 6 years. They wait about 10 seconds before trying to pin something on her. She runs, because what else do you do when LITERALLY EVERYONE you care about is against you. Then when other things start happening, immediately Emily is to blame. There is no actual evidence to support that theory, but oh, it's definitely her! UGH! Her husband's new wife, Alice, is cold hearted. She plays the victim but is actively trying to turn Flynn (Jack and Emily's son) against Emily. This really irritates me. Obviously there is going to be tension when your husband's dead wife returns from the grave, but COME ON! I have no sympathy for her character at all. I think that the writers could have crafted her character with a little more grace to make her an actual likable person, even though she doesn't really trust Emily. Instead, she comes off as petty, jealous and just a mean spirited person in general. Over all it is a good show. The acting is great and it kept me hanging on wanting to know how things would turn out for Emily.

It was riveting for the first seven episodes, potentially one of the most captivating detective series ever. But then the plot completely collapsed, I struggled to stay awake while watching the last three episodes. It felt like the producers themselves got so fed up with the story that they felt a compulsory need to bury it. A more elegant way out would have been to freeze the first series after episode 7, buying some time to devise a more fluid and credible storyline for the finale. It is very rare for a series to start so bright and end up in such a terrible mess.

I endured 3 episodes and gave up. I just couldn't watch the rest of it.
