It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

Zombie movies follow a basic formula because they are metaphoric of life. A group of people with brains seek out a safe utopian world free from the unthinking zombies who blindly follow the crowd trying to kill the idealists. There are 2 types of zombies. There are the foot dragging raised from the dead zombies and the faster moving viral zombies. In this regard, the film has met the basic requirements for a decent zombie film.A group of survivors are headed toward the island of Catalina. Some die along the way. Some are added along the way as in any good zombie film. Why they choose to venture on foot rather than drive a heavily shielded vehicle, I don't know. The special effects were inexpensive CG critters, fires, and blood squirts. In these types of films it is the characters and dialouge that make the production stand out from other low budget movies. In that regard, this one failed to stand out. Ving Rhames needed a personality. Lesley-Ann Brandt had dead deliveries and wore jeans that never got dirty. Like John Wayne movies, multiple zombies die when one bullet is fired. The other film that goes by this name is far worse.Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity

Unbelievable… I have approximately 460 movie titles queuing up in my watch list, of which probably 450 are much better than "Zombie Apocalypse", and yet I'm wasting my precious time on this worthless and irredeemably awful piece of junk. I even swore that I would stop watching the nowadays zombie-infestation flicks all together, because they're basically all the same. It always goes like: some kind of unknown but tremendous and fatal virus wipes out 90 to 99% of the earth's population and causes the dead to resurrect as zombies with an insatiable hunger for human brains. Subsequently, a small group of survivors – usually people that cannot stand each other – huddles together and travels from one desolate region to the other, hoping to reach that one magical place where the uninfected still have the upper hand. Throughout their journey, there are several bloody encounters with hordes of zombies. During each encounter, one of the group members theatrically dies but other survivors might join and reinforce the group. "Zombie Apocalypse" is a production of the infamous The Asylum studios, so quality-seeking horror fanatics already know to avoid this one. The Asylum stands for rapid and cheaply produced flicks that don't feature an actual plot but showcase a whole series of the world's worst digital and computer engineered special effects. The blood in this movie, for example, appears to be some sort of red dust that vaporizes almost instantly. Apart from the opening sequences – which actually mislead you to believe for about three minutes that "Zombie Apocalypse" might become something endurable – there's never any remote attempt to build up tension or atmosphere, and the characters (every single one of them) are the biggest and most idiotic stereotypes imaginable. The Asylum also specializes in demolishing the already ruined careers of washed up actors even further (I'm looking at you, Ving Rhames). Near the finale, when I barely even bothered to stay awake, the whole thing gets completely retarded as Ving Rhames has to battle zombie tigers in the harbor (I kid you not).

Why? Why why why do I waste my time on SyFy films? We are expected to believe in comical to horrible special effects. Acting? Horrible. Editing? Horrible. Storyline/Plot? Passable. I had trouble coming up with 10 lines for this review because there is absolutely nothing worth writing about.Ving Rhames is the headliner in this mess of a film. I guess times are hard.Don't waste your time. It's not worth the 1 star.

After a zombie virus decimates and nearly destroys humanity, separate groups of survivors band together to reach a safe-haven and battle through the ravenous hordes of the undead to reach their destination. This was a decent enough zombie effort which has a lot to like. Among the best parts of this one comes from the fast-paced plot here, mostly due to the fact that this one just starts off immediately with the zombie invasion and never really lets up at all, continually going forward with a never-ending series of extremely fun, high-energy confrontations that manage to feature just a large number of action scenes. The opening attack on the trio in the abandoned ghost town is really fun as they continually appear and overwhelm the trio forcing the last-minute save which is an incredibly fun brawl, the later ambush in the sporting goods store and a fight in the school are quite fun attacks, though this one gets its best values in the later half. The big attack in the suburbs, where the group is overrun by the horde of swarming zombies that requires the save from the other roving band of survivors that also splits the group up, the rather fun encounters of each team as the main group encounters the zombies on the outskirts in several extended chase sequences as the split group gets deeper into the city on their own encounters with the zombies before finally meeting up again as the huge group dashes to the city docks away from the creatures and finally getting the all-out fun of the zombified creatures coming into play here with the final brawl to get clear in order to finally be safe. These here give this a rather large amount of action that carries throughout here that brings another big positive into play here with the high number of personnel in the groups also makes for some good times, due to the fact that it allows for more to succumb to the attacks as well as giving off more gore during those scenes, from the zombie violence and the blood and gore featured amongst it all that provide a lot of enjoyment. Along with the utterly enjoyable zombie make-up that gives the creatures a great look, that this one also features a decent enough back-story here to explain the world-wide epidemic actually coming to fruition in some decent addition action scenes, all of which give this one a lot to like that can hold off the film's few flaws. The main problem with this is the inconsistencies with the creatures as the fact that the zombies tend to fluctuate between the running kind or the slow, shambling kind all the time without any kind of merit paid to which one is used throughout the scene, and the distracting nature is somewhat off. The last problematic area is the usually typical but still noticeably bad CGI, not only utilized for the cityscapes off in the distance and all kinds of gunfire when it's noticeable that it wasn't fired at all but also gets used for the blood-splatter which occurs on both species and letting the wounds themselves appear as practical matters. Overall, it's still a lot of fun even with these flaws.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Language and violence-against-animals.
