... View MoreManiratnam is famous for making realistic portrayals on Indian politics and to spread righteous awareness among public. Although, this is a masterpiece by Maniratnam and went average on box office but I should tell you, this movie is quite biased on Indian political system and what modern changes could soar up the levels of India among world's other well- established nations. What India needed now in politics was well judged by this effective filmmaker long back in 2004. India needs no gray haired, old skinned sixty-plus men to run India in this era. India needs fresh, well-equipped with highly educated youth to spread their knowledge to make one unique India. One who can persuade common people by his/her essence of creative skills to build up something unique and which can last for years is needed in politics, as a leader, as a front man and a politician. Coming to the film, story of three guys interfere in a way to survive their own lives but also to gain power of supremacy. A single event can change the course of life. But on the way to become superior, if you gain lust for money, hitting out anyone blindly just to become wrongly influenced among others, can hit you and your life so hard, you cannot even imagine. Yet, being made in 2004,this film is somewhat still effective in present years. Indian politics needs to be changed and only youth can change it positively. Youth knows what it takes and what is essential for all and different kinds of people situated in different parts of the country. They have courage and grit to expand their knowledge and fortify their country. But if any man chooses wrong path in need of making easy bucks and doing wrongs getting persuaded by well staged politician, no one can measure what lies in destruction of him and his life. Maniratnam has crafted well film. His work is substantially amazing. Story, direction, making actors act, everything is beautiful. Ajay Devgan and Abhishek Bachchan are a treat to viewers. Film lacks some technical background but it doesn't glitches the whole film. Cinematography is awesome. Film shot in 2003-04 having such class camera work is an icing on an ice-cream. 7.5/10.
... View MoreThe film is so fresh even after 12 years of its release , still relevant to the point.Maniratnam has his magic touch in this one too, locations are great. Calcutta is interesting as always and captured very well.Rehman's music suits the mood of the film so does the score, Screenplay is tight although i don't like the Lallan's part.Acting wise Ajay Devgan is best followed by Vivek Oberoi , Rani Mukharjee ,Kareena Kapoor ,Anant Nag and rest are also good.Need Less to say one of the best films ever made in Bollywood !! Go for this quality cinema.
... View MoreWow! what was that!! this will come out from you once u watched this movie.Mani Ratnam has made a movie which will be a favorite for me 4evr!His control on the direction is simply superb and he has explored the true n real characters out of his star-cast.But my best character is Lallan played by Abhishek(hottest star in bollywood!).Perfect to bring out the brutal and wild shades in a negative role and its only after this role, he has got recognized by evry1.Kareena as the love interest of Arjun is looking too hot and her secret lies in her hair-style! (ok, i'm getting biased but i truly like her skin!)Another best part about this movie was its music.AR Rehman has done wonders in giving trance cum more hip music specially for the young listeners. The movie didn't do well in the box office as they just didn't publicized it well.Sad but true.Another sad part was the role played by Vivek as Arjun. From start till the end, he has got beaten up all the time!Any how,Yuva is one of the best Indian movies that I can proudly recommend it to any1. The linking of 3 diff parallel running stories at the end is the best part of this movie.Ratnam is agn doing a movie with Abhishek named 'Guru' and people who have seen the promos, r going gaga abt it!
... View MoreLet me come out and say it right now, this is a very good movie, Mani Rathnam at his best. As most people have already said, the direction and look of the movie is very slick but we've had movies like Dus which can boast of a twisted slickness as well but no substance whatsoever. Unfortunately it is movies like Dus that do well at our box office instead of intelligent movies like Yuva. The story of the movie is simple enough: Michael (Ajay Devgan), Lallan (Abhishek Bachchan) and Arjun (Vivek Oberoi) all cross paths due to fate and politics. And essentially, politics does form the backdrop for this movie as the main thread in this movie is that of Michael's, who is a student leader in his college seeking reform in the way things are being run through politics in the city. Lallan is a goon/hit-man/bad man in general in the movie. His portrayal of the character is commendable and he actually manages to scare us, the audience, but (as much I may receive boos right now) he has been over rated in this movie. Any of the three stars in this movie could have pulled off that role just as well, Abhishek was simply given a chance to shine for once and he did. Arjun is a fun guy to meet after the seriousness of the first two-thirds of the movie, mainly because he is just like most of us are, caring mainly about ourselves, dreaming of going to America or other such lands where streets are paved with gold (sic) and trying not to live for the moment but failing miserably. He changes over the course of the movie, somewhat unrealistically. Of course, each character also has a love interest to give great visuals for those brilliant Rahman songs, Michael has Radhika (Esha Deol), Lallan has Sashi (Rani Mukerji) and Arjun has Mira (Kareena Kapoor). Now for the rest of my thoughts on the movie, I felt Ajay Devgan's acting was grossly underrated. His powerful yet unflashy portrayal of the main protagonist in the movie was brilliant. He is by far the most realistic of any of the actors in the movie. Abhishek Bachchan, who most certainly does not have consistency behind his name, has for once given a decent performance but it is nowhere near great by any means. His was an easy role to play for any actor worth his salt and there are a good dozen others in Bollywood who would have done a better job of it than him. Vivek Oberoi's performance is decent as well but his character itself is not memorable. Had he made his acting a little subtler and lent more justification for his actions, he would have come close to his acting shown in Company. The music is fitting, upbeat and hip, lots of percussion to make us feel the youthful inspiration. With Rahman orchestrating the scales, it is hard to go wrong. And he does it right once again. The direction was very good and Mani Rathnam has actually upped his standards with this one. He was always good at portraying emotions on-screen but now his action scenes are some of the best I've seen in Bollywood, very realistic and slickly made shots. The bridge fight scene is excellent, be prepared to hold your breath when watching that one!Well, there's always a catch, and with this one, it's that this movie does not touch us the way we have come to expect of Rathnam. It's a great movie, well made and very entertaining but it probably won't wrench your heart out of emotion. Then again, I think that's besides the point of the movie anyway, as it works in every other aspect it delves into.
