This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

After being banished from their tribe, two hunter-gatherers encounter Biblical characters and eventually wind up in the city of Sodom. Year One is directed by the late Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II) and stars Jack Black, Michael Cera, Oliver Platt and Olivia Wilde and to be honest i can definitely understand why some people hated it. The film does make at times a bit of fun some stories from The Bible and that was kind of the film's main problem with me it's nothing like it ruined it completely but Ramis had done way better comedies than this especially 1996's Multiplicity with Michael Keaton but for what it is? Year One is a pretty fun adventure if not just a watchable comedy.

I like Jack Black and I like Cera as well. Harold Ramis is a funny man, and very talented. However, this turkey could have been made (and looked like it was made) for 6M instead of 60M. I liked some of the skits in the film (the killing of Abel and one or two of the Sodom scenes). However, three scenes and five good minutes cannot rescue a rambling mess. To be viewed only if it is free. (and then much beer and junk food will be required as well).Dr. Arthur H Tafero (AskMrMovies)

After the success of school of rock I decided to give Jack Black a break in the acting and directing department until This came along. Its not funny or entertaining in the least and only composes random events together as if an attempt to make it so. The caste was worst I've ever seen and try to play it too straight losing any dignity it had. The sets look terrible as if a kindergarten class was putting together a group project.None of the characters are likable and try to be offensive just to be. I really don't see who they were catering to as even the low brow will caste it aside as deserving of a razzie award. Maybe its not my type of film, but after seeing this atrocity I felt it was my duty to steer clear anyone consider renting of buying the DVD. I usually don't trash films or at least cut them a break if any artistic merit was attempted. Here I just don't see it. All I can say is choose better projects in the future Jack Black and Michael Vera or your careers will stall. I'd give it a zero if possible.

Year One.I love Jack Black's work, he's a hilarious actor. I love his movies. But this movie is no exception. I hate how they gave a funny actor like Jack Black, a crappy, cheesy and completely unfunny script to work with. This movie felt longer than it actually was and I remember falling asleep half way through it. Why? Because it's one of the worst comedy movies ever.Okay, so the concept was good. I've barely seen any movies that do this. But the actual execution of the movie - boring. It's like a Michael Bay movie, it's trying to be funny when it's not! The only thing that prevented me from giving it one star was the fact that Jack Black was in it. The other guy...who the hell is he? Never seen him before. If they got a comedy writer, one who is a master of the art. It could have been a great movie.
