This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

A great movie needs the writer, director and actors all to be very, very good. Wise Girls has all three.Acting is much more than just saying the words in the script. There is tone, there is timing, and sometimes a silence can say more than a whole lot of words. Great actors can show in their facial expression just the emotion and meaning that fits the scene perfectly. All, yes all these actors do this all through the movie. Of course, the actors need a great writer and director to get the best out of themselves. Here they have all met, and delivered. The story is straightforward and easy to follow, there are elements that we see connect to give meaning to what is happening now and what is about to happen. The characters are well defined, the events are realistic, and gripping. It was good at the start, and I kept worrying that it would get disappointing, but that never happened, it kept getting better and better. Three beautiful young women are waitresses is an up-market restaurant where the owners are involved in some shady but unspecified side businesses. The women, each with secrets which we eventually learn about, are dragged into events and really need to get themselves clear. They combine, they support, they do what needs to be done.At one point, Meg ( Mira Sorvino) who normally speaks so sweetly - like the girl next door, but in this moment of stress, her voice changes, and sounds so menacing. Brilliant, you'll know when you hear it. The grandmother, with perhaps dementia just sits there, says only a few words, but she too is brilliant and her inclusion adds so much to the reality of Meg's situation both in the first scene, and the last. Brilliant writing.

So after all this time of mucking around, not watching this movie, I finally decided to give it a watch. It had a promising plot line and fell under some of my favourite genres. Not to mention it had Mariah Carey in it so thought heck she can sing so may as well check out how good her acting is. I was pleasantly surprised, this was a genuinely good movie. I was constantly guessing what was going to happen! (of course there was some predictable bits but when isn't there in a movie right?) But it was the end that was actually worth waiting out for it actually surprised me as in threw me in one direction and then back in another, if you watch it you will see what I mean. Overall though the characters were well developed you could pick who was your favourite...or who you hated, and you couldn't fault the acting cause they were all actually pretty flawless. That's why I can't understand this rating on IMDb what are these people rating on? goes to show that sometimes just watch the movie anyway cause you could be pleasantly surprised. Give it a watch and you will hopefully be relatively impressed if not very.

wisegirls is the simplest movie i have ever seen. the setting, and even the characters. but that's only when i do not engage into a deep analysis of the movie. for as i tried to indulge myself into it, i realized that it is more than what it seemed to me at first. For you see, i realized that its simplicity is actually what made it such a exciting movie for me. I said it's exciting because the turn of events towards the end is so "seemingly-towards-a-sad-ending" that i got really overwhelmed when i saw Meg joined Raychel and the other for their birthday-re-birthday-pack. You know, that moment, i felt like i was Raychel. aside from that, i really loved Mariah Carey's acting in this movie. for a figure like her whose talent is on singing (she's got the most powerful voice of all!), i would say that she portrayed her role in a rather "natural way" as what is expected of Raychel. i loved mariah the most! Mira did her acting as if she personally underwent such fate. Melora really amazed me by her acting specially when she revealed herself to meg. to the cast and crew of wisegirls, two thumbs up!

This movie really surprised me. I thought that the Mariah Carey character really carried the film. Had this movie been released before the Glitter film, she might have gotten a better break. Her role in Glitter was really good. Her role in Wisegirls was GREAT!!!
