The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

I am bad at guessing plot twists. They fool me every time. So when I call a plot "predictable", you can bet it is REALLY predictable. Bill Pullman's strangely stiff, constipated performance is partly responsible for telegraphing the "surprise" ending far too early; on the other hand, Julia Ormond is awesome and Pell James is surprisingly likable - and ultimately touching - as a drug addict. The film works best in moments of black comedy, but on the whole it's probably too sick for most viewers' stomachs. Jennifer Lynch seems to share her father's nasty vision of America. At least the alternate ending leaves a slightly less bitter taste in your mouth. ** out of 4.

This is the slowest and worst film I have ever watched!! Please no one ever watch this movie!! It's 2 hour of your lives you will wish you could get back. There is nothing in this movie worth watching. The acting is terrible. Everything about the movie is completely obvious right from the beginning. What a let down for bills career. This film should have never been created. I hope that whoever created this movie never makes anything like this movie ever again, the world does not need anything like this ever. this film was so bad it should be erased from every film archive and we should all just act like this movie didn't hapen

My hands were a little shakier than usual when I pushed this DVD into the player – too bitter were the memories of "Boxing Helena", even more than a decade after watching that film, which would have made Ed Wood blush in embarrassment. The fact here in Germany the film was labeled „valuable", didn't help things either.Seeing the FBI agent sipping coffee while riding down a "strange highway" at the beginning of the movie, the question that came to mind was: "Jennifer, have you seen Twin Peaks too"? Had the interrogations taken place in a little diner, it wouldn't have come as a surprise. It wouldn't have been a surprise if Kyle McLachlan and the dwarf from the Red Room would have made a cameo. Question is: did Jennifer Lynch consciously rip-off her fathers style? Perhaps not; perhaps it's simply Lynch-DNA.There has been much harsh criticism about Pullman hamming it up beyond the axe-wielding range of Jack Nicholson, probably from people who either haven't seen any (David) Lynch movies or don't like them. Anybody bitching about Dennis Hopper or William Dafoe pouring their fat into the fire is off my Christmas list for good. Why Pullman doesn't get to inhale some mystery drug or shoot his head off with a shotgun is beyond my knowledge, but it's clearly a tribute to Dad … pardon, a tribute to David Lynch all along. What leaves viewers (or better, the seasoned David Lynch viewers) a bit cheesed off about the Ending is the fact that Jenifer Lynch might hold them for fools. The film pretends to be clever, as if the director really expected somebody to burst out at the end: "You mean the real FBI agents were dead from the beginning? Gosh, Jennifer! You is smart!" But she's not going to hear it from me.The ultimate question, as ever: is it a bad film? Nope, by no means; like "Saw" Part One to 15 weren't bad films if you're a gore-hound, or "So High" wasn't bad if you're a stoner. It's a good road movie. It's a good bucket of gore. It's always good to see Michael Ironside and it's even better to see him die. The die-hard David Lynch fans will nod benevolently towards the child – and wait for Jennifer to make her own debut-film.3 points from 10 – one for Michael Ironside, one because I'm a bit of a gore-hound and one for… did I mention that Jennifer is David Lynch daughter?

This is my first review on IMDb that I just had to write as this movie as this was so much outside of my expectations... I cannot decide whether to put this movie in a genre of horror or some sci-fi crime where nearly all the characters belong to some strange other planet, because if I imagine all this happening on planet Earth, it is a really sad picture. First I thought it'll be some thrilling FBI movie and great for relaxation after a long working day. Well, I was quite wrong. This is a kind of movie after which you might not sleep well couple of nights or couple of weeks depending on how strong your psyche is. If I only look at the movie as a work of art, I could say it's a good movie, well shot, great director's work, good play by most of the actors, but from a certain point of view it's not much different from Alien, the 8th Passenger: when I first watched it many years ago, I found it extremely disturbing. Now I could watch it without the same level of stress, probably because I've watched so many similar movies over the years. After watching this movie my first thought was that it's shame that these great actors gave their name and worked for such a horrifying movie. I think the problem with it is that it is unrealistic to have all these characters and all the events happening in one movie...sort of over-realistic, over-saturated horror movie that might well work for creating more serial killers if that was the aim of the director. I cannot say I enjoyed the movie. I wish I could stop watching it at any point. I'd rather watch any Alien movie again, because I know that that's just a Sci-Fi, not real. This is a kind of movie after which you start thinking of putting more locks on the main door, lock your car whilst driving and look around with suspicion in anywhere outside of your home, even if you live in a safe area (e.g. me in England). Hopefully this move has nothing to do with the realities of American life these days ...
