Excellent, smart action film.

... View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
... View MoreThe movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
... View MoreJudging by the rock song added to the American print of this film, I expected this Italian-made movie to be campy fun. Instead, it was quite a compelling mystery-horror genre pic that got me enthralled throughout. Before watching this on YouTube, I found out on this site that one of the players was one Barbara Lass who plays the leading female character of Priscilla and that site revealed that she was once married to director Roman Polanski who she'd divorce a year after making this. Maybe the werewolf makeup wasn't too scary but otherwise, this was a very good thriller to watch. So on that note, I highly recommend Werewolf in a Girls Dormitory or the original title of Lycanthropus.
... View MoreIf a dormitory is some kind of alternative prison and girls are adult women and in means never in,the title makes complete sense. I watched this twice and still don't know what to make of it. The girls seem really slutty at the beginning but we soon learn that they are actually much worse than that. They have no problem frequently climbing the 15 foot high spiky front gate and never even think about just jumping the 3 foot high wall two feet away. The werewolf tries to gently massage people to death and usually fails. Who's the werewolf? I have no clue. The men are that boring and similar. The best thing about this movie is that all the doctors and professors have guns. That seems to be a common thing in these movies and it never gets old. Watch at your own risk.
... View MoreWerewolf in a Girls' Dormitory (1961) ** (out of 4) Italian horror film about a girls dormitory that has its members starting to be found brutally murdered. It seems that some sort of wolf is behind the attacks and they all started when a new teacher arrived on the scene. This film gained a pretty bad reputation thanks in large part to its American title (the original was LYCANTHROPUS) as well as the song "The Ghoul in School" that plays over the main title. There's no question that the film is lacking in several aspects and especially when you compare this to various other Italian horror films but with that said there's also quite a bit to enjoy here. For starters, the film manages to have a couple eerie scenes scattered throughout the running time. One of the best and most memorable scenes happens early on when one of the dead bodies is being looked at and the victim still has the horrified look on her face, which she had moments before she was murdered. I also think the werewolf make-up is pretty good. Those wanting the entire face to be covered with hair will probably be disappointed but I like the actual look of the wolf as well as how they use shadows to give him a creepier look. The death scenes are also quite memorable as there's quite a bit of blood and "cutting of the flesh" especially when you consider the era that this was made. With that said, there are still plenty of problems including the fact that the entire mystery really isn't all that hard to figure out. The biggest problem is that there are so many red herrings and it's pretty obvious who isn't the killer because of how silly some of the "hints" are. The performances are also quite weak in spots but this here might be improved by watching a non-dubbed version. WEREWOLF IN A GIRLS' DORMITORY is far from the horrid film many make it out to be. There's no question that it could have been better but what's here is mildly entertaining in its own way.
... View MoreThis film wasn't that good. The title was much better than the movie. The trailer was misleading, making it seem like a college or teen type film with jazzy music from the time in the 'Horror of Party Beach' variety. It really should have been called 'Mystery of the Werewolf in a Girls Reformatory'. Reformatory instead of Dormitory because that was no college, as the title hinted, and this was more a mystery than horror. All the women wore what looked like female prison uniforms and had trouble with the law. They weren't college co-eds or whatever. It was a murder mystery with a werewolf as the killer, you had to try and guess who the monster is. They threw in a few red herrings to throw us off. And when ever dogs or cats appear in these films it ends badly for them. I don't like that.I will say that the werewolf makeup was interesting....cheap looking but still effective. I wasn't expecting a horror classic. I was hoping for more from an Italian made horror film from the early 60s. I usually like them. Bottom line, while it was not a total loss I wouldn't see it again if I can avoid it.
