We Are What We Are is a brooding slow burn with little to no jump scares and disturbing subject matter, specifically cannibalism. Believe me when I say I really wanted to love this movie. Sadly, the first two acts of this movie are a chore. I fell asleep the first time around the 20-minute mark my first watchthrough. It begins with a family tragedy and shows their subsequent grieving period. This family has a secret but it's established early on so we're just watching them do stuff. It's a way to develop the characters and set the mood, sure, but it completely failed to grip my attention. You know where the movie is going right off the bat. It shows its hand too quickly and doesn't gain any momentum until the final act.The third act is enjoyable, though. It's thrilling, tense, borderline silly at times but all in good fun. The problem is whether it's worth the wait. Like waiting in line for five hours for a roller coaster ride and you finally get on and have a good time, but was the wait really worth the few moments of enjoyment? Honestly, it's entirely up to you. The movie certainly has its perks. The acting is excellent across the board, the daughters in particular, and the cinematography is superbly crafted to give you the eerie vibe necessary to pull off this subject matter. Production value wise, We Are What We Are is quality stuff.I'd recommend it to horror buffs, specifically those who prefer a slow burn over cheap jump scares. We Are What We Are just happens to be the particular slow burn that's slow to the point that it produces more of a flicker than a flare.

Though this film is excessively tedious to get through with it's pacing problems and slight incoherence, We Are What We Are has a pretty cool story to tell. Though for scary horror fans, this film may disappoint, but the chills this film does give is that of creepiness and dark themed violence. This film is definitely not without it's problems, but what is wrong with the film balances out with what is right. If you can keep your eyes op until the end, you won't regret it, but it's not your fault if you can't. It's probably not the most entertaining film ever made, but the stories twist can account for a few fun moments; I just wish there were more of them.

Don't go where you don't belong ! Haven't seen an aesthetic horror like this in a while ! This movie catches you from the beginning. The atmosphere is possessive and the setting is just ideal. I loved the tint, it is just orgasmic. Wonderful story told in a smooth and tasty way. The doses of suspense are injected properly. The acting is very solid.Totally worth the time and the money. Not for everyone obviously. This movie is made for people that don't succumb to he social conditioning.Everything about this movie felt natural, I don't get this feeling very often. The last scene is a pure piece of art that holds nostalgic spikes. The last scene is a compelling painting !

I would not call it a horror movie even if there were some bloody parts but it was for sure a good movie. Starting slow and building the suspense up every minute. I really enjoyed watching this movie. I guess they put it in the horror genre because some people might get offended by the story but I wasn't at all shocked. I'm pretty sure there must be sicko's like this in our miserable rotten world. If you want to watch a nice thriller with a good plot then you must for sure watch this movie. You won't regret it. Very underrated movie to me when I see the score he only gets. Compared to some really bad movies that still get like 4 stars it goes beyond my comprehension that this one doesn't even get 6 stars. Well I guess that it's every man to his taste.
