Sadly Over-hyped

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

You have to understand that it is not sound to have a "Warlock" movie without the man himself. And I am of course talking about Julian Sands. And you know that there is something amiss by the movie cover already. But in Bruce Payne's defense then he did fight valiantly at an uphill battle.While this third movie obviously has better effects than the previous two movies, given the latter year in which it was made, it just suffered from a lack of an elaborate storyline. It was just too simplistic. And it just didn't have that characteristic "Warlock" quality to it.The story was just too forced, especially since the warlock character just shows up at the house without any background story of where he came from or why he was there in the first place.The cast did good jobs with their given roles, even Bruce Payne. But he just wasn't "Warlock" material. Yes, he does have some similarities to Julian Sands, but he just didn't cut it. It was the devilish charm and characteristic imp-like look that were missing."Warlock III: The End of Innocence" comes off as a mediocre movie that tried to milk the rest out of a franchise that ended with the second movie "Warlock: The Armageddon".Having seen it, it can be checked off the list, but it just lacked that particularly devilish magical ingredient to qualify as a proper "Warlock" movie.

You really have to give credit where credit is due. I couldn't imagine anyone doing better playing Julian's Warlock than Bruce Payne. Then again, David Twohy isn't credited on this, so perhaps this isn't the Warlock we know and love to hate.I did assume that without Julian, they were just starting anew with a new Warlock character played by Payne, and I guess that may be the case. However, Bruce's outfit and hair color certainly imply it's old blondy again.Now, I thought a new character would really irk me, but while not simply emulating Sands' characterization, Payne adds to it. I don't think he quite makes it his own, but he certainly raises the bar for Sands, should he even consider returning to the role. Some think this may have been too wordy compared to the previous action-driven installments, but it worked for me. Certainly enough to overlook the other mediocre people in this film. That's not to say their acting sucked, though. They were believable as their characters. It's just that their characters were boring.I think I would quite enjoy Bruce returning as blondy again, but if Julian were to return, I think he'd have to rise to the new bar set by Payne, even if it isn't quite the same character. Bruce gave his Covington more depth in some areas, while Julian seems to bring more murderous intent to his Warlock.Sadly, it's been 8 years. While I consider one of the previous reviews "Hopefully the end of this particular franchise" to be sheer nonsense, it's clear that the rights holders have no faith in another film despite the quality of the premise the franchise is based on.This is a shame. The original film's story and characters were fantastic (well, Lori Singer's wasn't crucial), and surprisingly not realised on film in the decades before. It seems to be one of, if not the, definitive witchcraft horror films. True, the second paled in comparison, with only Sands worth watching, but this, the third installment, seemed to recapture the depth and motivation of the, or a, Warlock character.I would hope that those who own the rights consider seeking out a quality screenwriter who could tempt Sands, Payne or even Richard E. Grant back to their roles. (I always imagined blondy would finally meet his end at the hand of Redfern after being sent back in time again)Here's hoping for Warlock 4...

Warlock III was a very good horror movie and it stands out in the crowd very well.Bruce Payne is very good as Warlock. He's good because he plays one of those sinister types who comes over as all benevolent and harmless when in fact he is an evil warlock.The film is one of those good movies which doesn't shock us right from the beginning but chooses to be subtle and gradually scare us. The finale itself is very good and quite scary and unlike some horror films it doesn't feature the bad guy keep getting up from blow after blow.Well done to the people behind Warlock III.

This is not a Warlock-movie.....where did this come from??? This is a cheap horror movie that can't even scare a child. There was no plot, no story and absolutely not one good actor. I am a fan of Bruce Payne but this was crap, he is not a Warlock. Even if Julian Sands is not the best actor of all, he is the Warlock and I am so glad he didn't do this one because this is terrible. I don't have the words to say how bad it was so instead of just repeating myself I end it here. Another film that should never had been done.
