In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

This was a very pleasant surprise for my wife and myself. It is a completely enjoyable film from the first moment to the last. Fabled songs, good scenery, great choreography, entertaining storyline. Two very lovely actresses (who were unknown to me). A truly gay time (in the correct meaning of the word). It is an unrivalled experience of unalloyed pleasure in every particular and the best film I have ever seen!

It is a love comedy of musical style. Since it contains some iconic hit songs, some of them might be familiar to you. They can make it possible that you get thrilled by the story much more. Particularly, the relationship of each characters are portrayed uniquely in the drama. For example, a younger sister, the lead character, considers her oldster as trustworthy beloved person, but in the light of her love affairs, she can't help see her sister as a rival. She has been bewildered by such an unstable situation, and in other words, she has been in a dilemma whether she should betray her sister or follow her honest feeling for her ex-lover. Under such circumstance, her old sister, on the other hand, can be both protagonist and antagonist for her younger sister. The fluidity of the character's role sounds very new to me. Over all, story is very dramatic enjoyable, and some well-known songs successfully doubles its feature.

Walking on Sunshine was Mamma Mia! the Movie without the good actors, good music and good script. In fact, it only reminded me of Mamma Mia! the Movie because there was sun, surf, sand, and plenty of skin shown. (And in case you're interested, one of the differences was that this film had the "occasional" tomato too......) The cheese is so plentiful in this film it's literally dripping off the disc. In addition, it has stereotypical characters, clichés and *yawn* predictability, not to mention that the deepest part of the film is the sea (which, by the way, looks like it belongs in a Hannah Montana movie). There's a feel-good soundtrack and dancing that never quite gets on point, and – unfortunately – is heavy and weighed-down; failing the movie when it's supposed to give a light-hearted, frothy feeling. One more thing. The beach dudes in this film all look like they're gay. Seriously, I kid you not. When you watch this movie – and I don't recommend that - just take a look at their dancing, their clothes, and when they emerge in slow-motion from the waves. It's disturbing. ONE more thing. I love musicals, and I love singing. So I wasn't prepared to hate this film. BUT...if you want to watch a feel-good musical, watch Mamma Mia! the Movie; the cast make it worthwhile. And if you're looking for depth, watch The Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables.

I'm not sure if this isn't too sweet even for hopeless romantics ... or that a lot of people who watched this were cynics. Now the songs used here, all have a history and are really good. Most of them even fit into the situation they are used. At least the title of the songs do. But "telling" a story (actually singing it) with lyrics that don't always fit the situation 100% is a bit of a stretch.Or you don't care at all. As you shouldn't with the predictable outcome of the movie. But that shouldn't be the issue, other movies "struggle" with that too. If you don't care about clichés and just want to listen to the songs, have at it. Rock of Ages was way better and funnier, but you have to have nuances in movies I guess
