... View MoreGreat story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
... View MoreBruno is overjoyed to be waking up next to his 15 year crush Caroline Rush (Georgina Reilly). It's Toronto summer 2009. There's a garbage strike, the Indy's in town, and the band Broken Social Scene is playing. It's Caroline's favorite band and her last night before going back to Paris. Bruno's friend Blake brags that Bruno could get her backstage. Bruno struggles to get them into the concert and then backstage.Director Bruce McDonald is basically doing a concert film incorporating an indie love story. It doesn't really work as either but it's interesting to have both interacting. One does have to be a fan of the music to like this. The concert is fine but McDonald needs to have longer sections with only the band to fully immerse in their vibe. As for the love story, it kinda works until she walks off some unknown reason. The movie takes a bohemian turn at the end and it's an odd interesting but unsatisfying finish.
... View MoreThis Movie Is Broken is either a blatant self promotional film for the band Broken Social Scene or the writers truly lack any talent and had to compensate for their lack of skill and/or writers block by putting a live concert in to fluff out and fill 90% of their script. To even suggest that this is a movie is misleading. It's an hour and a half music clip showing a live band (Broken Social Scene) intermingled with perhaps a total of 10 minutes of actual dialogue and 'storyline' about the characters.I can't even imagine how anyone can even call this a movie other than the fact that it's comprised of a series of still images strung together.Unless you want to sit and watch Broken Social Scene play live for almost an hour and a half, avoid this film.I have seen music clips tell a better tale in less than 5 minutes. The movie summary for this film has almost the whole story in it.
... View MoreI never hear about Broken Social Scene before this movie. I saw it on International Film Festival Bratislava. And I really like it and I really like this music. I think people, who don't like BSS will not like this movie so much. Music is like other character. There are two stories, one is story of this boys and girl and second story of the band. I think this first story would not work without music. Some parts of movie are like music video. I'm not sure, if this gay thing was really necessary, it could be nice story about friendship without it. It seams to me like some way to shock. First time i saw it on big screen I was enthusiastic and little bit afraid, that when i will see it second time, i will not like it so much. But it doesn't happen.
... View MoreI really did enjoy this movie, however, I tried to watch it with the perspective of someone who doesn't like/know BSS. I must say it's not a movie for everyone. There's a cheesy story and it's blended along with a concert. It's fun to see how the band acts on stage, and the emphasis isn't just put on one member, but on all of them. The movie itself is almost like a semi-rockumentary since it depicts the atmosphere of the city of Toronto at Harbourfront in the summer. It's hard to tell if the focus is on the band or the story, but it was a great movie anyways. It wasn't meant to be a blockbuster or the critics' choice of the year, it's just about friendship and fun. Don't expect it to have a fantastic storyline and splendid acting, because you will be disappointed.
