Good story, Not enough for a whole film

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

It seems that this TV movie is s sort of pilot for a TV show. Not the kind of stuff that could have been shown in France anyway, despite the presence of the likes of Gig Young and John Savage. The latest was not known yet in France, before DEER HUNTER. Well this one: TURNING POINT OF JIM MALLOY, is not a bad drama, with some Horace McCoy's novels atmosphere from time to time. Young is pretty impressive, a Oscar winning scale performance and as good as the one he had in THEY SHOOT HORSES...The typical feature that Gilroy made or produced at his peak; offbeat and very intelligent.
