The Philadelphia Experiment Trailers

A secret government research project tries reviving the World War II "Philadelphia Experiment," which was an attempt to create a cloaking device to render warships invisible. When the experiment succeeds, it brings back the original ship (the Eldridge) that disappeared during the first test in 1943 - which brings death and destruction to the 21st century. It's up to the sole survivor of the first experiment and his granddaughter to stop it.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Trust the one star reviews. Anything three stars and up are family and friends of the producers or director. This thing is AWFUL.Every single person who worked on this piece of crap movie should be utterly ashamed of even thinking of putting it on their resume. The effects were cheap, the acting bad, the script non-existent and the production values were so low rent that they should be arrested for squatting. Here's a clue for the director and cinematographer: BALANCE your steadycam. Trying to achieve Dutch angles throughout the entire film does not make this film ARTISTIC; it makes it AMATEUR.Quite frankly, if I was the DOP or steadycam op, I would remove my name from the credits. I am guessing this won't make anyone's highlight reel (unless they are trying to convey a lazy, drunken Dutch angle look.) Next time, buy a tripod. Rent one even. Yeah, I know the whole budget was about $100. (They didn't even make the effort to use proper N-numbers on the aircraft to cover up the Canadian registration or even do the SLIGHTEST bit of research in how a pilot communicates with the tower. Hint; small aircraft do not use flight numbers.) Tripods are not that expensive. Next time, call me; I'll give you a quarter to go downtown and find someone to rent you a tripod. When every single hand-held and steadycam take is shot at a weird angle, the audience is going to hate it. If you don't believe me, watch the first five minutes. THEN switch stations. You will thank me for this.

This 2012 version of THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT is a failed reworking of the minor sci-fi classic that was the original. Gone is the military-focused, ship-bound storyline to be replaced by a generic 'government conspiracy' style tale, with lots of driving around and chatting as a couple of protagonists evade the generic bad guys. The special effects are very limited and consist merely of a couple of 'electricity' effects which they really shouldn't have bothered with, as they're not very good. The hero duties are fulfilled by Nicholas Lea, who certain cult fans may remember playing Krychek in THE X-FILES, while the likes of Michael Pare and Malcolm McDowell prop up the cast. However, like a lot of low budget Canadian sci-fi movies in recent years, it's really not worth bothering with.

When I PVR'd this I'd actually been hoping it was the original 1984 movie because I remember really liking it. I'm not sure if I would feel the same way about that 1984 movie today but regardless what I got was a 2012 SyFy channel remake. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting -it wasn't great either but okay for a B-grade made for TV movie. The story borrows heavily from the original, this time reviving the WW2 era experiment with the warship (Eldridge) rematerializing at a small airport with disastrous results, bringing death and destruction to the 21st century. Its up to the experiments sole survivor and his granddaughter to stop it.For the most part I liked the story or at least just went with it, there were some very dumb parts too. The acting was decent from Nicholas Lea as time traveller Bill Gardner and also from Emilie Ullerup as Gardner's (very pretty) granddaughter. They did a decent job together, decent action scenes and I particularly liked seeing how confused Bill was by 2012. The men fused into the ship (which I remember from the original) was cool as was the Eldridge transporting to strange places like the top of a skyscraper.Things fall apart completely by the end with major plot holes, Malcolm Mcdowell turning up (at what 100 years old?). The casting in general was all over the place starting with Michael Pare (one of the stars from the original movie) playing a bad guy here, a sort of hit man which was a shame. Gardner also seemed too old for his role as a supposed 20 something navy crewmember from 1943, if they were going to cast him then they should have just stayed with Pare, he still looked good. 10/28/15 *Filmed in Vancouver

Has everything considering the REAL Philadelphia Experiment was actually a real top secret event that has come to be known to the public through the years. This "SYFY Channel Original" leaves off where the original 1984 film did, and is impressive for a SYFY low-budget film not to be confused with SCI-Fi Channel original channel title; which was a completely different Era in Sci-Fi films, where you couldn't discern Low-budget films from high budget.Of course, from an actor point-of-view -which is higher judging ability; which this review is of course - the 80's through the 90's had superior talent industry in general not to be confused with todays "Disney channel actors"; case & point. The old pro actors had such a dry script however, they pulled-off a decent Sci-Fi film because the true Philedelphia event as mentioned before in fact occurred even according to the Government and military records which cannot be falsified; case & point. Truths isn't conjured-up to be entertainment, that's why all these films on the Philadelphia military Experiment are not so "Hollywood" bull jacked up and is what made this movie work.Only thing the script could have improved upon like all documentary based stories is to give us some real answers on the event finally NOT fictional ones that end like a Kevin Trudea installment where your left with more questions then answers.
