The Mexican Trailers

Jerry Welbach, a reluctant bagman, has been given two ultimatums: The first is from his mob boss to travel to Mexico and retrieve a priceless antique pistol, known as "the Mexican"... or suffer the consequences. The second is from his girlfriend Samantha to end his association with the mob. Jerry figures alive and in trouble with Samantha is better than the more permanent alternative, so he heads south of the border.

n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

What is a gangster fairytale? The Mexican is such a hilariously good mix of funny romcom talk and funny action scenes. Topped with some lovely romantic happy ending, this movie is just do die for if you wish for a feel good movie that will lift you up. Especially recommended for the girls and boys if they are on a datenight. It is the ultimate romantic AND funny gangster movie, that will make your girl crawl into your arms purring with affection. It worked for me.The story really doesnt matter although it is very clever and funny. In short: Brad Pitt plays a dumb ass who doesnt want to lose his girlfriend Julia Roberts. Add a lot of hilarious gangsters and you have "The Mexican". It's a funny romcom story put in a funny gangster's movie. And it mixes perfectly. And the hilarious and brilliant comedic acting of Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts make this flick really a treat. Add to that grandmasters in acting like James Gandalfino and Gene Hackman who play the serious parts and you have got a precious comedy gangsta gem!Seen it more than a dozen times and it keeps getting better. What is it about this sweet and funny story that is so endearing to me? The humor and dialogues are terrific. The romance is just the right amount for a "gangster" movie. The story is fresh and original. And the final direction by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Carribean) is just perfect. What more can one desire? 10 out of 10 for a new romcom gangsta classic or what I like to call a "gangster's fairytale"...

This could have been an adult Bob Hope and Lucille Ball movie. It was as fractured as Pulp Fiction but without any of the reality. If it was intended to be a tongue in cheek spoof, that much was accomplished. I don't remember if the actual age of the pistol was mentioned but it was obviously a cap and ball pistol. No explanation as to why a pistol that old and treasured as an heirloom, was loaded. Julia Roberts pulled the trigger and "bang", the bad guy is hit in the thorax at point blank but, in typical Hollywood fashion, stands around just looking shocked. In real life he would have dropped 1/10th of a second after being shot. That is just childish.James Gandolfini's talent was not just wasted, it was thrown away. He played a great part for nothing. Hackman's character could have been cut out of cardboard. He looked like he was thinking, "Why the hell did I agree to do this?" Might be easier to endure with an occasional shot of tequila and a Dos Equis chaser.

Tries too hard to be cool. Instead it mostly just seems silly, and dull.Initial plot set-up was fairly interesting and had potential. However, it quickly degenerated into inane farce and/or pointless sub-plots.Director Gore Verbinski (director of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, so you already know the movie is going to be more style than substance) seems intent on channeling Quentin Tarantino: cool quips and nonchalance while in the middle of incredible danger and violence. Instead, he misses the mark and the movie just feels lame. Leave the cool stuff to Tarantino, Mr Verbinski.Star-studded cast: Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, James Gandolfini, JK Simmons, Bob Balaban, Gene Hackman. They do their best but are hamstrung by the script and direction.

Never having seen this film when it made its commercial debut, we were able to catch it when it showed recently on a cable channel. "The Mexican" is a film that combines genres. It tries to be a madcap comedy, a road film, and a crime comedy. Gore Verbinsky tries to make sense of the J. H. Wyman's screenplay, without much success.Fans of Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt were probably disappointed with the finished product because they only appear together for a short time. Brad Pitt plays the goofy Jerry, a gofer for a mobster who is sent to Mexico to retrieve the valuable silver pistol. Julia Roberts is Samantha, Jerry's girlfriend, whose main ambition is to relocate to Las Vegas to be a croupier. The viewer is rewarded by the wonderful supporting cast. James Gandolfini plays a bad guy sent to get Jerry in Mexico. His character is the most complex of the film and to boot, he is gay, something that Samantha notices without much trouble. J. K. Simmons, sporting a blond wig, has some good moments as Ted. Bob Balaban is also on hand to play the man who sent Jerry to get the pistol. Gene Hackman shows up toward the end showing why he is one of the best character actor of his generation.
